Good trip Roy.

Good morning kids, sleep well?
Just another day at work for me, now how big of a suck is that!!! It's summer in NE again, mid 80's this week, people are flocking to the beach this AM. Very strange to see people swimming in Oct! No packing today, have to squeeze every sale we can, this move is way more costly then I thought.

I think I'll sell everything, move to Bonaire and become a dive bum?

Hi Jerry,
Hang in there buddy, soon the move will be only a memory. Warm here too in the heartland. Fall is coming though. Highs in the 60's next week.

Jerry, I'm doin fine.
Been going to the Gulag early and usually getting home after you've picked up your check. S**ks. Going to do a little quarry diving\underwater photog next weekend. That should replenish my batteries.

Good for you Steve.
There was a bunch of divers going in for lobsters this AM as I left for work. Big crop this year. Prices are dropping and the meat is sweet as he((.

Hmmmm... I'll need that lobster BLT recipe at some point. (slobbering uncontrollably)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Jerry (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #7185) on Saturday, October 6, 2007 - 12:58 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

Here you go buddy.

Here it is, BLT to die for.

Serves two, adjust as needed

4 slices of smoked apple bacon.
1 big fat tomato
1/2 lb cleaned, cooked lobster
Tempura
Veg oil

Sauce.
1/2 small clove of garlic (crushed)
pinch of smoked paprika
small pinch of saffron
2 tbl of mayo
pinch crushed red pepper.

Mix sauce ingredients together in a small container, adjust spice to taste, cover and put in fridge.
Cook bacon, put on paper towel to drain . Set aside.
Add some tempura to a plate, (good hand full) Add more if needed.
With sharp knife, slice tomato in half (side to side) we need 4 slices 3/8" thick.

In a large heavy fry pan add the veg oil to a depth of 1", heat oil over med-high.
Put the tomato in the tempura, cover 100%. Repeat for the remaining tomatoes.

When oil is ready (test by sprinkling a pinch of tempura in the oil) add one tomato at a time to the oil, cook until golden, turning once.
Remove and set on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Now you are ready to build the Bacon-Lobster & Tomato.

Use a good size plate here.
Add one slice of fried tomato to plate, put 1/2 the lobster meat on top, add the sauce on top of the lobster, (just a small amount, you can always add more after)
Put two strips of bacon on top of the sauce.
Put the remaining tomato on top, BINGO, you are ready to chow - down!

Any questions, need help? Call me.

OMG that sounds wonderful.. thanks for sharing Jerry.. I think we should start a BT cook book and everyone can share a recipe for it...Might be a good thing to do instead of Christmas cards....Everyone could write up a recipe on computer and then copy onto regular sized sheet of paper {so it is easy to print it out} decorated might be nice but not necessary } and we could swap recipes and put them in a folder of our own design..

Steve usually we have a list for Christmas/Holiday cards and Cynde /or others create {I think that Kathy did it one year and also Greta} labels for us to print out to make it easier than hand addressing..I hope you will send Cynde your address so you can be included this year.. We actually have a lot of newbies here this year I hope they all want to be included.. So instead of doing cards how about we exchange recipes?? We can put together that BT cookbook that many of us have been wanting to put together for a few years now..

Kiwi..."That would be great"...L...M..A...O..."someone's got a case of the Monday's" How are the "Bob's" treating you??? disasembled your cube yet? No pics up yet, but it's on my "to do list" to update the website this weekend. We've gotten several emails from folks that attended already asking for pics!

Jerry, no, diving was supposed to be last weekend...but by the time we got to Avalon, and I was at the helm most of the time (Michael was sleeping, what the he)) is up with that?) the back was hurting so I decided to play it safe. One wrong move trying to gear up could blow the whole thing. We are going to try again next weekend, so I'm "pampering" the back.

I'm perusing Rachel Ray's website for something to cook up tonight. Do you all have chicken cutlets in your area? she uses them a lot, but I've never seen a chicken cutlet here...can I just take a boneless chicken breast and beat the he)) out of it?

Jerry, what is panco? She (Rachel Ray) has a few breaded cutlets reicepes, one has pine nuts and some other seasonings after you flour, egg, and then do it in that...hmmm...I have a macadamian nut reicepe thingie....

Funny, I got home from work last night, having a glass of wine, trying to talk Michael into going to a local cafe for French Onion Soup...I decided I needed a little snack, so I took some salami, put some cheese on top, and zapped it....I was sitting on the couch watching Rachel Ray...eating my treat, and Dylon comes out and looks at the TV says "it smells good, are you making that?" I'm like uh...no, it's salami and cheese zapped in the microwave. Poor boy look sooooo disapointed...lol!

What a difference a day makes!!
Yesterday it was white-cap city out in the channel....
this morning it looked perfect for a sail
beautiful day for a sail
all the lobster boats were out checking their traps
see the boat going away from shore?

the wind is starting to pick up again though and it's only in the low 70's --- beautiful fall day!

I made us breakfast and used some of my Curry Ketchup from Bonaire --- yummmmmy! Now Guy is sleeping in the sun on the lounger and I'm determined to work on pictures.

I'm in for recipe exchange.... funny I just got in an email one... perhaps I'll send it out to all of you too :-) :-)

Boom, it's nice here today too, no wind! Are all the divers going crazy and the dive shop abuzz now that lobster season is here? by all reports locally, it has started out slow. In fact, there were several sitations in Laguna Beach this week for divers taking too many, and undersize lobsters.

Kiwi, just send me your snail mail address. I put them all on a word doc label sheet, then email that to everyone, then you print the lables out, and wala!

Boom, I've gotten a couple of those emails for recipe exchange, but even that's too hard for me...lol! I can open an envelope and stick it in a binder easy...

OK, you quarry divers, what is the water temp and when is the best time to dive a quarry (season). We have some ff miles and I'm thinking a road trip may be fun this fall...it's fresh water, right? so less weight?

Jerry, Rachel Ray LOVES parmigiano reggiano...

LOL - Jerry the wine Natzi. No Caymus for you!

Cynde,
The quarry I dive here is the Gilboa Quarry in Ohio. The web site has basic temperatures for the calendar year. I do not dive surface temperatures cooler that 60 degrees F., but then again, I don't use a dry suit.
I like August and Sept. the best. Especially Sept. because there are less divers.

The web site below will give an idea of how it works.

I am lol seriously...we were at the liquor store down at the harbor a couple of weeks ago picking up some wine to take back to the boat...and well...I have a habit of being a freak magnet (freaks love me)...we were at the cash register, and there was this disheveled woman running around the store picking things up (we think she was on "something"), anyway, she looked at me...stopped dead in her tracks, went over to the ice cream freezer and screamed "he's an A#$HOLE...NO ICE CREAM FOR HIM!!!!" put the ice cream in the freezer and picked up a trucker hat and put it on...and said "NO ICE CREAM FOR HIM" I'M BUYING ME THIS HAT, IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD AND MY HAIRS A MESS."

I swear, Michael and I walked out of the store rolling laughing...so now and then we go "NO ICE CREAM FOR YOU" now I have a new one "NO CAYMUS FOR YOU"!!!! L...M...A...O....

Cynde, do you have an extra Truffle or two kicking around?

Sliver one med Truffle, mix into some smashed potatoes, with a dash of truffle oil, top with a pinch of flur de sal and fresh ground pepper.

Im sure the place we're going to tonight will have a menu to compare with Jerry's
The Nuggett in Summerland
the menu

a friend is visiting from Palm Dessert so that's our big night :-) Actually, the food is pretty darn good, the atmosphere is fun and the company will be outstanding :-)
Now, if only I'd get some pictures done so I can print them and show off!!

I must say I picked out some great tunes to listen to while hanging out with ya'll on our patio... first Willie & Lobo "Puerto Vallarta" now a Windham Hill compilation of accoustical tunes "Sanctuary" very soothing. Maybe too much so since Guy has now moved from the sun & lounger inside to the couch!!! Lazy day for him but this past week has been brutal getting back in the swing.

I can hear Jerry it the floor from here...NO CAYMUS FOR YOU!!!!

Back from the salon...he cut about 4 inches off, but it looks better...sigh...

I think I'll skip the dinner and go out tonight my hair looks so good, I hate to waste it...lol!

Kiwi, we had 16 tugs show up. two had to come without their boats. We had 8 do the Avalon Run the next morning. And, it's a LOT less work than our last boat....1956 wooden owens...all wood...all work...all the time...lol! After 8 years i said, I WANT FIBERGLASS! LOL!

Well, since boom is getting a glass of wine, and you've gone to the stoli bar, I'll get myself a glass too:-)

a little bit of rum
a little bit of vodka
a little bit of whiskey
lots of gin.....
Hello Saphire :-)

btw- we LOVE Tuffy. She's a very comfortable boat!

I hear ya on the wood boats. I had a 61' Chris-Craft woodie when I lived on the lake. I loved that boat, but yikes! not easy to maintain. I miss the boat (and the sound of it's engine), but not the upkeep. More pics!

What kind of boat does Guy want, Boom? (The Stoli is beginning to have some affect. I almost called you Boo) I think he should have a fire tug, but it should pumps adult beverages out the hoses instead of water.

Boom, I bought BOAT SHEETS! lol, and a twin down feather bed cover...omg, made all the difference in the world the last trip...it was soooo soft and compfy!

Boo...I agree with Kiwi...fire boat.

Kiwi, I grew up with boats, in High School, we had a 32 foot Chris Craft...the summer my dad bought it we spent all our time at the boat yard scraping barnacles, sanding, varnishing, sanding, sanding, painting...lol! but my friends and I sure had some good times on it! It had twin engines....was pretty sweet. Jim Croce blasting on the 8 track cruising around the San Diego Harbor in our bikinis going by all the swabbie boats...lol!

Hey! I got 2 pictures done :-)
I totally missed the Hippo vid -too busy worrying over booze!

When we met, Guy wanted a sailboat but now he looks at cabin cruisers. Something to do with a lazy wife/first mate; I dunno. Me, if I'm on a boat, I expect boat drinks! (I'm really sounding like a lush here, aren't I?)
Anywho, you can call me Boo
Cyn, you obviously haven't broken in to that glass of wine or you would never have let the woody comment slip by!

I'm determined to print at least a few pictures - our friends just went to Aruba and I can just hear it now... "Aruba was this, Aruba was that" and never believing that Bonaire is nothing like Aruba.
Wait till they see.....

Kini,
Me too on a smaller scale of boat. I spent my summers at the lake from 5 years old on. Just the best times you could imagine. The bikinis, the late night boat rides, the cold, cold beer and the laughter. I couldn't have asked for more. It was so sweet. Flying across the lake listening to 'Satisfaction', come on, it doesn't get any better.

I appreciate the restraint on any woodie comments.

Cynde, that is too cool you had an Owens. I had a 28ft. Owens before I got the Egg Harbor (Fiberglass) The Owens was a great boat, although it was beaucoup work. Those boys down in the Chesapeake sure know their craft. It's funny you guys call them tugs. Back here, on the right coast, we call them trawlers.

Jim, you had an owens to? I'll have to look for some pics...it was sweet, but work!

tuffy is a "trawler" but since the maker is "nordic tug" everyone calls them "tugs"...you would not believe some of the comments we hear when people walk along the boardwalk and see Tuffy...."gee, that's an old working tug they have fixed up"..."i thought it was a 20s boat"..."how did you get that tug refit"? lol...it was made this way! lol!

I got about half the pics loaded on the site yesterday, hopefully I will finish today...

Cynde, how far out is Santa Catalina? Is it about 26 miles? I was trying to think of the lyrics to the song, and it somehow told me 26. Am I correct? What kind of range does Tuffy have? Is she single or double screwed? Diesels or gas? She is really beautiful.

OMG Carole, I forgot about that song! lol! Hopefully I will have the rest of the pics posted in the next couple of days.

It's 26 miles from Long Beach to Avalon...it was funny, because that is short for us, it was cool going from Long Beach to Avalon cause we could see the island almost immediately. From Dana Point, it's a while before we see it (there's usually that "haze" in the air), and it's about 41 from Dana Point to Avalon, so it takes a tad longer when we go from Dana Point.

Jim, Tuffy has about a 500 mile range we figure (I think that's what Michael told me...lol) She holds 60 gallons of desil, and SIPS SIP SIPS gas cause she is a S-L-O-W trawler...lol! it costs us about 30 bucks of desil to get to Catalina and back! slow is good sometimes...lol! I was talking to one of the harbor patrol guys last weekend when he came by to say "hi" and we were talking about gas vs desil. A guy that owns a Sea Ray told him that it takes him 60 gallons of gas to get there, he has to refuel in Avalon (at $5.00/gallon) to get back, so we figured it was around $600.00 in gas to get over and back....OUCH...we will take slow for now!
