BH - I just stay at the Holiday Inn... MM 100 on Key Largo, nothing fancy but clean and right next to the dive boat I use... price is about $179.00 a night. There are cheaper places and Kathy posted links to them a while back when we were talking Keys Mini Meet!

BH, I've been diving there twice and stayed in Marathon. It's the best of all worlds "key wise". Largo has Walmarts and is much more developed and touristy. Key west is way cool and very Buffet like and a little trendy too. If you want to see six toed cats, Hemingway's is there. Marathon is a good mix of nice restaurants and hotels. We stayed at Faro Blanco, which is a little expensive. If you plan to dive in Marathon we used Halls diving. They also have cottages they rent out and they looked pretty nice and fairly cheap, but that was ten years ago so.... Also Loo key is pretty nice and laid back too. Best of luck.

AH ha!!! She stayed at The Hungry Pelican in Key Largo. It has to be the best deal around, you know Kathy. She's her own travel agent.

I would look on Expedia. In Key Largo, we got good deal at Ocean Pointe Suites a few years ago & I see it's still pops up (showing $129/night in August; full kitchen too, so you save on breakfast & lunch).

First of all, if you're going during the off season....DO NOT MAKE RESERVATIONS!! Trust me on this....you will get much better rates this way. Stop at the tourist info center right by the first Shell Man place you get to. It's on the right side of the road just before Pennekamp Park. (if memory serves me) Ask the guy in there what he's got in room rates. Honestly, you won't find better rates than he can get you. He hooked me up last year at The Sheraton for $99 a night. Very nice place with a small beach at MM 97 I think. You could also try Marina Del Mar right behind the Holiday Inn. Nice place and very close to Ocean Divers. I wouldnt stay at the Holiday Inn...way overpriced and pretty darned noisy too. Like I said....check with the guy at the tourist info place....you cant beat the rates that he will get you. P.S........make sure you leave him a tip in his jar....he wont forget you if you need his help again on the trip back up through the Keys.

Almost forgot....the same guy at the tourist info center in Key Largo hooked me up with a room in Key West too. Stayed at The Casa Marina which is one of the nicer places to stay in KW. Keep in mind that the beaches in Key West arent really very good, but Casa Marina has one of the nicer ones. This place is very expensive to stay at during tourist season, and even during off season, it aint cheap. I got an ocean front room there for $149 per night. Can't beat that !!!

I must be getting old because I totally forgot to add this in my last post. For a cold one on your way down....take Card Sound Road into Key Largo...not the main road. You'll go past a bar called Alabama Jacks. You gotta stop there for a cold one....lots of bikes do. Another biker stop is The Caribbean Club in Key Largo. I've only been there once, but that was enough. Can be a pretty rough place at times. For good eats at a good price in Key Largo you have to try Hobo's and The Pilot House. Make sure you get a table outside on the deck there, and not one inside. Inside is very expensive and kind of "uppitty" but outside is very cool.....good food and pretty cheap. Lots of locals hang out there. Live music a couple of nights per week too.If you like Cuban food, you have to hit El Siboney (sp) in Key West. It's down by the Southern Most Point on a side street. Really good food.
