So we had an interesting discussion in my house this morning about Sunday morning etiquette. We close up all of our windows at night because our African Grey, Daryl, "goes off" in the morning as soon as the outside birds wake up (around 4:30 am). We don't want him waking up the neighborhood, so we keep the house closed up until a decent hour. So during the week and Saturdays, that is usually 8:00 am. On Sundays, I like to let the neighbors sleep until 9:00 am. This morning I opened the sliding glass door to fill the bird feeder about 7:50 (or so) and guess what I heard???? Someone on the block over is using a table saw or a wet saw or something along that caliber. It is loud! I would be furious if I was the immediate next door neighbor.

So am I being selfish? Old fashioned? Respectful? Or what? Isn't it just common courtesy to not make gosh awful loud noises in the morning, especially on Sunday? Honest thoughts people...I want to know if we are just out of touch with the times.

For the record, no one has ever complained about our parrots and I aim to keep it that way! :-)

Tribs - Our neighbor uses his gas powered trimer/blower every Sunday at 7:00a.m you can set your watch to it!! Not to bad when the A/C is on and all the windows closed but in the winter when the house is open there are some Sunday mornings when I want to wrap that thing around his head!!

That drives me nuts! I keep everything so quiet around here. Especially on weekend mornings! Our neighbors aren't real close, but I don't want to wake them, because I know they leave for work everyday around 6:30am, & I figure they might want to sleep later on the weekend. Well, this morning they have been outside building something, using saws, hammers, an air boat, I don't know what all! What can you build w/ an air boat? LOL

Our neighborhood has homes close together. Saturday seems the day for chorse around here and thankfully most folks start after 9 or 10 probably out of respect. Our house is always shut tight as a drum with HEPA machines running so no open windows for us; too much allergies and mild asthma for me :-(

I don't think you're being out with the times. 7:50 AM for me is disrespectful and I would probably ask if he can wait till later in the morning if it's irritating. I have 2 Yorkies that would love to go off on something like that racket LOL.

OH I really didn't address the "Sunday" part of your question but seriously it seems most mowers and power tools are run on Saturdays in our neighborhood. Most of us are in church and out eating on Sunday in our hood :-)

In My area anything goes after 8am. Most of the houses have the bedrooms in the back of the houses, so you don't hear most noises. I live on a Cull-De-sac and everyone watches out for each other. I'm lucky to live on this street as it's part retired people and working people, so we have observers all day long. Two years ago they caught someone breaking into my house!
Please remember though this is Las Vegas and 8am is late as most people get their outside things done before it gets too hot.

Bill, I'm lucky like you and live in a culdesac, so it's pretty quiet. I think anything before 8AM is rude. Goes back to the discussion about how people now days are selfish and inconsiderate of others:-(

Tom, you live on the big pond if I remember right?
I could bring the launcher to the cookout, you can take it home for a few weeks, it's fun trying to blow up the boats from your deck.

Thanks for the offer Jerry but, I like sticking a little c-4 to their hulls then swimming away and surfacing just prior to detonation. It is especially fun to do this prior to 6am on a Sunday. Wakes the tourist up - lazy pukes should be up anyway.

Across the lake from me, there is a guy with a sea plane, if the wins is coming in from the south, this sh$t takes off three feet over my roof.
That's a fun thing at 7:oo AM.

Hey Bill......diving in Lake Mead; Do people do it? Is it good? I was just there 2 weeks ago and I really didn't have a chance to inquire; too much shopping and not enough time :-) Try to get out there very year the past several years. I have a friend that lives off Decatur so we did lunch and I failed to ask her; she's not a diver though.

Hey Kobi
Lake Mead is where I certified, and in an extreme emergency that's where I go to get wet!
With the drought we're experiencing on the west coast the lake is down about 75 ft.
One of the more interesting site is a WW II B-29 which is now at 150 ft, the Park service still considers it a "closed site", but that doesn't stop some people.
The viz at the lake is not the best and except for the plane the lake doesn't offer much!

In our neighborhood we don't live real close to anyone. When the neighbors mow we can hear it though. We are always up at 5:00 am through the week so on Sunday if we sleep until 7 or 8 we are in heaven. We never start up anything too noisy until around 9 or so on the weekends.

I didn't realize that Lake Mead was down 75 ft. Sounds like you need some rain Bill. We had a nice storm yesterday I would have sent your way! It washed away some of our grass seed!

I'm with everyone else. Saturday or Sunday - if it's loud please wait until 9AM. It's rare that I am in bed that late but regardless if I am or am not - I don't want to hear your loud machines until later. It is rude for others that do get up early every day of the week.

Just like I truly feel that it is rude to call someone before 9AM or after 10PM unless it is an emergency. That's 13 hours of talk time there - and some of us might actually be asleep.

So that's my 2 cents worth. Keep it at 9AM - it's just polite.

Yes, 75 ft and we loose 2 inches a day to evaporation in the summer, so we should really be down by the end of the summer. It makes boating rather tricky. I wonder how Tuffy the Tug would do???

Moving the boat docks out has become a weekly event, which limits the number of spots to trailer the boat. Three Sundays I was in line for 2 hours to pick my boat up.

My cats have a tendency to go to the next door neighbors house and sit at their sliding glass door while their dogs go crazy.... they are no longer allowed outside before 8am - BRATS!

I'm with you all - no loud noises before 9am on weekends. I always get up around 6am but I really enjoy listening to the birds and the breeze in the morning.

Bill,
Thanks for the LV update. Wasn't sure I could use the lake to lure my husband out there. I go yearly with my mom; girlie outing and need the husband to go as I want him to see the dam and other cool things out there.

Thanks again for the Lake Mead info.
