The Day Fire is getting closer to us and is still out of control...we have some friends that had a mandatory evacuation today (they only live 2 miles from us)...please, please, give me some good vibes! I am in New York on business but Rog is home with the animals. I feel so useless 3000 miles away! Karen

OMG Karen, I cannot even imagine! I won't even imagine. I heard on the news this morning that they brought in bigger planes and were making headway, is that not true? Have you gotten things organized just in case you have to evacuate? I remember when my mom had to evacuate her home in Arizona when the fires were near her a few years ago, it was so stressfull. Big hugs and thoughts, please keep us posted. Tell Rog to give BT a heads up, or me an email to let us know what's happening please!

I just spoke to Rog and he is ready to leave if necessary...Rog is a member of the water board in our community and they had a meeting last night to go over emergency plans. If the fire comes our way we have been told that there will be 1 fire engine for every 3 homes in our community. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Rog says he is ready and the SUV is packed with CPU's, photos, food for the animals, cat carrier, leashes for the beagles, medications and a 1 week supply of clothes. Karen

Karen, here's a link to the California fires...
the Day fire is currently listed as "42% contained" Not sure if it's reassuring but maybe it'll give you more information while your away?

Thanks Babs...the 42% containment is on the western and southern flanks of the fire area. We are on the northern flank of the fire which burned approximately 9000 acres yesterday.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry this is happening to you and your neighborhood. I'll pray for a good rain! Sounds like you are as prepared as possible. Wish I could drive one of our panel trucks from MO and load up as much as we can just in case. Have any friends farther away from the fire but not too far away that could help?

Hey Roger & Karen ---- we just got home from Cambria, let us know if there's anything we can do from here :-)
We got word while heading up to Cambria that Guy's department was completely tapped out from sending teams down there - I think they have 35-45 people there... we just need the winds to behave. Wildland Firefighting is one of the physically toughest jobs there is.
Keeping all fingers, toes and other digits crossed for the right weather conditions to get a better handle on it :-)
Call me if there is anything we can do for you!

Wow, just saw this thread. Wet, cooling thoughts going toward that fire!
Karen, if Rog has to make a run for it, do you want him to grab the dive equipment too?
Hugs for both of you from both of us!

I'm in Chicago now and according to Roger we don't have much to report today. Fire engines were in front on our house yesterday through this morning. Cold (about 40 degrees and VERY dry today). Keep your fingers and toes crossed that the firefighters will be able to beat this!

Cheryl...LOL, we wanted to replace some of the dive equipment anyway.

Fingers crossed that you replace that equipment because you WANT to, not because you HAVE to!

Cynde, if you run out of room in your cellar, let us know, we'll pop out and give you a hand with the wine! :-)

My son's alternate shift at his firehouse in San Diego has been up fighting the Day Fire for two wks now. He was expecting his shift to be called up this morning but I assume they didn't go as he's supposed to call me if he does go. I'm a pretty new firefighter mom, so I'm worried for him AND Karen and Roger!

Karen, you and Rog our in our thoughts and prayers. Let's hope it dies down and goes away.

Tara...I LOVE Cambria! Good friend of mine was a waiter at the Brambles Inn while he was attending Cal Poly years ago. I dreamed of owning some property in Cambria for a long time. Used to have the real estate books sent to me.

Cayucos was another spot I got a kick out of. Used to subscribe to the Cayucos Breeze paper even tho I live in NJ. LOL.

Karen...safe trip home and hope all is well on the other end when you get there. cb

I'm home and what a day! I left for the airport this at 6:00AM and finally got home approximately 1:30PM. There was another fire that started off of the I-5 and the 14 fwy which held up traffic for an hour because of all the looky-loos. We decided to have an early dinner on the way home, as we got off the highway we got a flat-tire. As Rog was trying to change the tire the jack broke, he went into Wal-Mart to purchase a small hydralic jack, came back to fix and the luk nuts were on too tight to get off and we ended up calling and then waiting for AAA to come and assist. After a quick dinner and up the mountain...an 18 wheeler jack-knifed across 3 lanes of the highway right before we got there! Boy am I glad we are home. The fire engines are gone and the smoke in our area is also gone. YEAH!!!

Again, thanks for all the good wishes and prayers...it obviously worked.
Karen & Rog
