Well, we had the first ever Southern California Nordic Tug Rendezvous in Oceanside California this last weekend. We had Nordic Tugs from San Diego all the way up to Marina Del Rey. The largest was a 42foot (Marina Del Rey), and there were 3 26 foot, all from Dana Point (we had 100% participation from Dana Point Harbor...lol). Nordic Tug quit making the 26 foot in the late 90's, so they are a "classic"...(lol). Anyway, we all decided that we'd like to have an annual Rendezvous, and I hope that it works out that we do. There were 13 'tug' at the event (and there were some that owned tugs in Washington and San Francisco but didn't bring their boats down), and we met some really nice folks.

The men folk figuring out where to put the boats:-)

Heading up on Friday, the sea conditions were the worst any of us had been in with our 26 footers...but they "tuffed" it out...lol! anyway, as we rounded the breakwater this morning, the sun was shining, and the water was flat (it didn't last) but the 3 of us 26 footers were all smiles as it was just perfect as we headed back to Dana Point. We were all just snapping the cameras as fast as we could trying to get the best pics:-) These are our other "friends" heading out of the channel:-)

This little "tug" was in the harbor next to the Jolly Roger. This thing was miniature everything. It was about 8 feet long...it was really cute. I imagine that it really runs, but I wouldn't want to go out of the breakwater in it!

Cynde - that is too cool!
Great pic's of the Nordic Tugs.
Sounds like a lot of fun
On your 1st line-up shot - is that Tuffy 5th from the left?

My hub said that we have some around here & he'll point them out to me next time I'm on the water with him - or at the marina

Judy, yep, that's Tuffy 5th from the left (with the fender hanging off the bow). I had towels hanging off the bow drying, and this morning before everyone left, I wanted to go to the dock across from us to try and get a shot of all the tug bows, so I had to wait for a boat owner to let me down on the dock, then I see the towels hanging, so I yelled to one of the other owners to go get Michael to grab the towels so I could get quickly get some shots:-) They are sturdy boats, not fast, but they can handle a LOT... A presentation was given last night by an owner of a 32 foot owner, who has taken his from Ensenada Mexico to well up into the inlets of Canada...he had some stories. After I had gone through his boat on Saturday afternoon (before I heard the stories) I got off, and said "Bob, I'll go with you anywhere...you are ready for sh#$ to happen"...he had all the safety gear ready, handy, where it should be and knew how to use it...go figure (as all it takes is money to buy a boat)!

Rosanne, the next left coast mini meet will have to be further South:-)

Great shots Cynde, those boats are quite cool in a retro/seaworthy sorta way. I want one,I'll start on Sue when she gets home. Off course she'll remind me of my own saying, we can retire (one day), if you do not let me buy a boat.

Looks like a lot of fun! A tugboat, now that puts you in a unique "boaters" category! Unique is cool. :-)

Here are a couple more pictures. If you don't like boats, you won't like the first picture...lol! I just think it's neat. Also, the anchor "protector" on the nordic is a unique design on the Nordic Tug. They call it a "beard" you can see it in these pictures. Geez...I am a GEEK! LOL!

3 tugs in a row. I got a bunch of pictures from one of the other owners today. She took about 200 pictures!

Kathy, they are unique. They are a trawler design, very roomy and sturdy:-) We did a lot of comparing of "things we've done to our boats." lol...poor Michael has a "list" of "to do's"...one thing about this boat designer is that they tweak each boat just a bit, so no 2 boats are exactly the same, so it makes it really interesting to compare. Each hull is numbered, and ours was the oldest, hull number 11, they started making them in 1981!

Those are not cheap boats, $200k for a 1992 32'. Oouch, dang Winnebago's are cheaper and get better gas mileage and we can tow the beamer. It might be rough on the car if we used a Nordic Tug.

No kidding Cecil...that's why we have a 1981 26 footer...lol! Yea, the Nordic might be a little hard on the Beamer...might stress Sue out a little bit! There was a couple there that had a brand new 2006 32 footer...just deliverd...and the 42 foot was a 2005...it was beautiful to say the least. One couple who had a 2005 32 foot came aboard Tuffy and the woman said "Oh my, I feel like I'm camping!" lol!

I guess you left coasters that pay $500K for a 2000 ft2 ranch would think those boats cheap.

It's just crazy!
