Ok...we have two ways of telling it is getting way too hot around here.

First, my shepherd/husky/rot mix will walk outside on to the deck, sniff the air, and demand to come back inside. Seriously, if it is too hot out he will hold it. (He also doesn't like wind.)

Second, my Amazon parrot will tell us when it is time to turn the central air on. He stands on his perch, with his wings lifted so they are not quite touching his body, and glare at us! It's like he is too hot to have his wings pressed against his body. An Amazon....he is quite the spoiled little beast!

How do you tell when it is too hot?

We can tell it's too hot when the soles of your shoes stick to the melting asphalt and you can get 2nd degree burns from sitting on a car seat or grabbing the steering wheel!

I have a short haired dog that doesn't like rain. She'll hold it and wait. If she REALLY has to go, she'll duck under the eaves or the big tree in front. ;-)

My bag of candy in the car melted and this is the UK!!!! It was 32C today. 37C is the highest July temp in the UK so we are nearly there!

And when Riley's little baby pool is almost too warm to even let him play in it.

One thing I DO like about summer in FL is the rain. It gets hot, then rains.

Now in AL, it would be the "dog days of summer" now. Plants starting to die, grass started dying, all that. I hated that! Here it feels more like "rain forest", and that's cool by me. My banana trees are growing like crazy. And I LOVE sitting out on the lanai with its tin roof in the rain. That lasts, oh....a good 30 minutes if you're lucky. :-)

LOL!! I learned yesterday that it's all relative. I was speaking with my sis-in-law about their upcoming trip to visit us. I was telling her how warm it's been lately 88-90F. She just LAUGHED out loud. They are coming from New Orleans --- you get the picture :-) mid-hi 90's and HI humidity (it's been 16 years since I've had to deal with humidity!)
BTW- they are packing sweaters and long pants!!!!

It's cooler in FL than the rest of the country - only about 89 today. I just hope Maine cools off before we get there in August. and I really hope Colorado has some cool weather when we're there in september. I was in Denver a few years ago when the temps hit 95. It was much hotter than 95 here....no breeze.

LOL Cecil:-) You know it's too hot/humid here when you go outside and you can't breathe... it's like sucking on your regulator when your tank's empty. Yech!

We have a new one to add that we just discovered today. The weather is back and we were at 98 but the heat index had us in the low 100s. Supposed to hit 115 tomorrow with the heat index.

So, about 8:00 pm today I realized that it was so hot today even the ice cream man didn't come through our neighborhood. :-( Imagine how much he could have sold if he could have kept his stock cold. Really missed him today. Maybe he will reappear tomorrow.

Cecil...your robin/worm one is hilarious!

Love the profile pic, Tribs! It's hot here in NJ, too...should hit 100 by Tuesday..straight temp without the humidity index factored in. Worse than Florida weather...lived there too. Waaaay to hot for my liking....need some Bonaire waters to jump into for a "cool-down"...actually, it is cooler on land on Bonaire, too! LOL.

Wow....no ice cream truck! What a bummer...now THAT's hot!

No ice cream truck? the horror! lol!

Got back from a cool Catlalina last night (actually had to use a blanket Sat night on the boat!) It was 71F at 8PM when we got home...that's still a bit high for us for that time of day in the summer, so I'm hoping the heat spell broke! It was comfortable sleeping last night, didn't have to pull out the ice block and turn on the "AC" lol!

Don't mess with the ice cream man. He is an institution in my neighborhood. The kids start lining up outside about a 1/2 hour before we even hear the sounds of the truck. LOL!

Glad to hear you cooled down a bit. You guys had it so bad for so long out that way. I'm glad to hear things are getting better.

BTW...the ice cream truck didn't show up yesterday either. :-(

Tribs, we used to have an ice cream truck come buy when the kids were little...they would hear it and start scrambling for change...I don't think he still comes by...sad...an institution that has gone away:-(
