Becky, Roy, thanks, great pictures. Keep em' coming!

Becky, are those frozen caterpillars??? I remember my first ice storm when I lived in Washington DC...we had a big oak tree in our front yard and I would just sit and stare at it it was so beautiful...until I had to try to get to work the next morning...took me several tries (along with several other cars) to get up one particularly steep hill. At one point I just sat in my car and cried...LOL!

Roy, your pics are great! They remind me of where I lived in Northern Minnesota with all the trees.

Great winter pictures everyone! I will have to try and capture some in my yard tomorrow morning. I never thought of taking closeups of the frozen cattails, I hope mine turn out as good as yours did Becky. By the way...on your puppies, does the one have a wrap on his leg or is it just the photograph?
Here is one from today taken just down the street from my house. entry

Jeanine - both the dogs have booties on. They are cold weather wussies! :-) The collie will actually use his head so his front feet don't touch the snow if it's too cold and I don't put them on. LOL, the first time he did it I thought it was a seizure:-)!

Kathy - LOL, he was just not happy being "made" to sit in the snow! Wimp.

Cynde - cant wait to see the Wien-deers!

Becky..LOL.."i'm not having a seizure, I just don't like the cold...WHY was I born in Wisconsin God?" LMAO...on the booties...

What is a "draft" horse? Does he block the draft coming in the front door? Arn'et those little "cozy" things made out of material easier to use (and to feed no doubt)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Becky Hauser (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #106) on Sunday, December 18, 2005 - 2:27 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

LOL Cynde - draft horse meaning one who's original purpose was to do heavy work like pulling wagons, plowing fields etc. Clydesdales, Percherons, Belgians, Shires, and Suffolks are the 5 most common. Average weight on the first 4 are roughly a ton! Mine are Belgians and go 2200-2400 pounds each.

And yes, they do block the draft quite nicely... I've used them as windblocks when having to be out in the pasture doing stuff with them.

The "cozy" idea I just read about on a Vet board for protecting bandages and casts the other day!! :-) Jingle's feet are so small, though, they'd get stuck in the snow and fall off in about 2 steps.

Draft horse, got it. I thought the one above looked like a Clydesdale. My uncle in Aspen used to have a lot of Clydesdales that would pull his big wagons through the fields to feed the cattle in the winter. It was fun riding in the wagon and pushing the hay off the back.

I was going through some old pics, and here is Angel in the snow at my mom's old house in the mountains. She loved the snow!

Ok...going to try to attempt two more pictures. This time they are of our snowy bird house. The little ones (might be house wrens or sparrows) have taken it over and defend it vigorously. Yesterday I watched them attack a squirrel that was trying to move in on the top floor.
