I have been debating about posting these pictures here or on a New England dive board but my problem is that's not where my friends are. My friends are here. Now I did use a descriptive name for the thread so that the bandwidth/time challenged people can skip this. I'll also tack future dives on this thread until it get to long or to far down.

The first shots are from two weekends ago at Folly Cove on Cape Ann, Mass. We did two dives, the first on the left side which is a wall down to the sand. The second dive was on the right which is a boulder field down to the sand. We did two 50 minute, 62 to 55 degree (can you say wicked thermocline), and 15' visibility dives.

OK - so where was the fish? I found what could be an eye - no - wait - I see it! The sculpin! As a former New Englander who didn't dive when I lived there, I find your postings an interesting window into a world that didn't exist for me then. I remember my Grandpa going fishing and coming back with those funny looking flounder. I know to look for peacock flounder in Bonaire waters, but you you give me a grounding to my origins. Thank you for sharing that which I didn't know existed under water of my homelands.

Another question on the anemone - are they as brilliant and distinctive as their carribean cousins?

Cecil,

Thanks for posting those great shots. That is the only way I will ever know what cold water dives look like.

Nice pictures, Cecil! Very colorful under there, too, with all the yellows and pinks. :-) Btw, I'm a WWW, too, and admire ANYONE who can dive cold, lol. Even springs at 72-74 f-f-freeeze me.

Gail yes they (anemone) are for the most past. They are also about as common. The one big difference, is their northern cousins like to hide a lot. If the conditions are not just right they hide in their houses.

Cecil, great photos!

Count me a Warm Water Wuss also...even though I certified in Michigan and have been diving in Lake Michigan (near Glen Arbor, MI) and Grand Traverse Bay. It's no fun to get trussed up in 7mm neoprene with 85 degree outside temperatures. Boo!

This last Saturday we got out again and did two dive at the Nubble Lighthouse in York, Maine. The Nubble is the opposite of Folly Cove in that the wall is on the right and the boulder field the left. We did the wall first and a ways out we realized that we were in a fast current out to sea. We caught it early and after some hard swimming and bottom crawling we still had ait to play around in the cove.

One funny thing happen we almost both had a mid water head on collision with two other divers. Four divers at the site and we almost hit each other. I swear it was the pressure wave that made me stop.

The second dive we spent flying through the boulder field. I love the structure on the left. Here's some shots.

Not quite yet Tom. The weird thing about the water temp this year is I have hardly seen any 50 degree water. It's either been in the 60's or 40's, to hot with the 7mm in one, to cold in the other. My breakdown is the following.

55 and below - Full 7mm, hood, gloves

55 to 60 - leave the gloves

60 to 65 - leave the hood

65 to 70 - 3mm shorty with hood

70 to 80 - 3mm shorty

80 and up nekkid.

Cecil, I hope we never dive together when the water is above 80 degrees:-{O} Hot poker Cynde, I need a red hot poker!!

Seriously, last night I took 6 divers to the O.J. Walker, we had about 10' of visibility. At 60' the temp was about 52 degrees, at 50' it was 63 degrees. Can you guess which depth I spent most of my 54 minutes of bottom time? :-{)}

Cecil, nice pictures. And indeed a lot like Norway... I have lots of pictures of the Edible crabs (never a dive without spotting one) and lots of flatfishes.
You are not using a dry-suit?

No dry suit for me, yet.

Here's some shots from this last weekend. Saturday, Sue and myself cruised down the Maine coast starting at Old Orchard Beach and ending in York Beach. A beautiful day on the coast. Everything was blooming.

While eating dinner we watched this guy walking his cat. And they said it could not be done.

He would poke it with the stick to direct it. The cat would walk a ways, then lay down, the man would carry him a bit then he would walk some more and plop.

We ended at the Nubble at sunset.

Sunday, Art and myself dove Folly Cove on Cape Ann. We had an enjoyable dive although we did not see as much as I expect from Folly. At least the water was fairly warm (55), and the vis was pretty good (20'). Not to many good photo ops.

Cecil...great pictures as usual...Michael's mom had a cat when he was a kid, and they took it back packing and it would follow along with the family, and when it got tired, it would rest on top of one of the packs!

Oh, and on the warm water diving visual...Tom's right...pass the red hot poker
