Did anyone read the publication of the Justice Department that in june 2003 1 of every 140 US citizens is in jail?

Bob, I read an article/statistic this week that indicates one in seventy five men in New Jersey are in prison.....that's alarming! (I live in New Jersey).

Would that were the case, Bob; non violent offenders are being kept in overcrowded jails, and violent criminals are being released, as there are no federal sentencing laws for violent offenders, but there are federal sentencing laws for drug offenders.

We have lots of lawmakers who insist on long prison sentences for specific, non-violent crimes. New punishments are associated with lots of legislation. Perhaps the legislators should have appropriate studies done of the projected impact of such legislation before passing the laws.
