Did anyone read the publication of the Justice Department that in june 2003 1 of every 140 US citizens is in jail?

Do we have a jail in Bonaire? If so, how many people would be in there?

Bob, I read an article/statistic this week that indicates one in seventy five men in New Jersey are in prison.....that's alarming! (I live in New Jersey).

I don't think there is a permanent housing/jail facility on Bonaire....I believe the bad guys go to Curacao for incarceration. Carole

Bob....don't worry...the crime on Bonaire is nowhere anything near what we experience in the US.

Don't be afraid while on your USA holiday, either...just be smart...use common sense when it comes to traveling and securing items and yourselves while on the road and while parked/situated in one spot overnight. You have to be able to enjoy your trip! Carole

You can look at statistics in many ways Carole.
Maybe you should feel safe in New Jersey because all the criminals are already in jail :-)

Would that were the case, Bob; non violent offenders are being kept in overcrowded jails, and violent criminals are being released, as there are no federal sentencing laws for violent offenders, but there are federal sentencing laws for drug offenders.

That seems to be the scenario right on the head, Seb. Pretty scary how it seems to be working these days...the "system", I mean. Carole

We have lots of lawmakers who insist on long prison sentences for specific, non-violent crimes. New punishments are associated with lots of legislation. Perhaps the legislators should have appropriate studies done of the projected impact of such legislation before passing the laws.

Wait, sorry, that would require intelligent debate and analysis, something that is completely lacking at this point in US politics.
