Going ice diving tomorrow in Northern Illinois, water temp. 33° with a thin layer of crystal clear ice. Any takers?

Carole, I have to question whether anything will work in that water.....dat just too cold for me. Jim, a question though, does it hurt your head when you dive through the ice, or do you just gear up and slide out from the shore until the ice cracks and you fall through.

I don't have my camera system up and running so I won't be taking any pictures this trip. My full face dive mask is in the diveshop so I have to grin and bear the cold this time too. As far as the ice goes, we'll walk through the ice layer from the shoreline, its not that thick, any thicker and we would have to have the safety divers and ropes stationed. Usually use a chain saw to cut through the ice if its really thick. We will be able to break thru to the surface without any trouble (hopefully without using our heads :>) The water is really clear this time of year without any algae blooms or seaweed growing. Looking forward to diving tomorrow. Everyone wears at least a pony for backup, me- I'm in my doubles as usual... Have a nice New Years. I have a friend who is starting a B&B this coming spring in Bonaire and hopefully will visit everyone in 2004.

Safe Diving, jiminiŽ

We've moved this thread to Community Chat, where it really should be as it's not diving on Bonaire.

Jim, that just sounds too cold to me, but have a safe dive and be sure to let everyone know how it was:-)

Cheers!
