Great tune to start the day Rusty! Off to work for me! Be back for the sunsets hopefully....Thanks for the pictures and the polar bears! Your camera and skill are incredible! jealous, jealous, jealous! Have a great day all.....

hibye See ya later on, Meryl! It's all in the right equipment, really. If the camera takes good close-ups (something I've always wanted) then you just cross your fingers and snap! I was lying on the ground for some of the peeper pix - and took about fifteen and got three really good ones and the rest were off for one reason or another. The camera does all the work - flash set to auto and away you go. YOU and Steve can do it. Just take your time and take a bunch of shots. Throw away the losers and nobody needs to know. LOL

One of the nasty good little secrets of digital. Shoot away, the pictures are free. I do feel like a Japanese tourist sometimes, I shoot so many pictures.

The mountains were awesome yesterday, the valleys were still green, the middle of the mountains was peaking and the summits were bare (and some snow covered). I'll make a thread later. No trout pictures, the Swift River was living up to it's name. To much water and way to cold.

It's...

Ripe Pumpkin Day

Pumpkins are 90 percent water. They were once recommended for removing freckles and curing snake bites. We don't know if that works, but we DO know they are good to eat! anything

Morning gang...Cecil, look forward to the pics...

Rusty, you posted on yesterdays thread:
"Cynde - poor baby. Is bronchitis something you catch or is it something that starts as a cold and settles into something worse - like pneumonia. Work at home and take lots of drugs so you don't KNOW you're working. You'll feel better at the end of the day. Are you taking antibiotics for it?"

Rusty, it can be from a virus, bacteria, inhaling chemical polutants, dust (guess I should clean my house better, huh!) or the result of a severe cold. Funny thing is a week ago it all began with a mild sore throat and some congestion, then the cough and sore throat took over. Since it just got worse over the weekend I figured I better see the doc. Glad I did. Last time I had it it turned into pneumonia! She has me on 3 killer drugs to kick this thing, antibiotics, expectorant and cough medicine:-)

cecil You are KING for a Day. That little preview-zoom hint works like a charm. You are way more useful than the tiny little manual that came with the Olympus.

AND - maybe I have a hint for you. You have the full Photoshop, right? Did it come with Image Ready? I edited a .mov file in there last night - brightened some frames and threw out frames and got a cute little vid (animation) of Princess out of a big fat file. I have to do a lot more RTFM in there, though to see if I can brighten the whole .mov in one fell swoop or if it's one frame at a time. I wound up saving as a gif. Not sure if I can resave as a .mov file yet.

Who knew this humble little mint - Heal-all was so gorgeous.

I was pretty sure that would work. All the better digitals have that feature. Actually credit goes to a friend from work that showed me that little trick, I think he actually read the manual.

And why would anyone want to bleach out freckles? LOL

Dadz took these the last week of September - I just had him mail them to me to share with youse guys. This is where we took Jenni shopping when she was here - the Lee Outlet Mall. Dadz called the first photo the Punkin Stampede - the Last Roundup.

Read the manual? Heresy!

So why does red and orange go all funky when you lower the picture quality?

Seb, hit the zoom button while you are in preview mode. It should zoom in on the image (great for checking focus), you can then pan around with the main control (I don't know what to call the 4 or 5-way toggle switch).

Rusty no idea on the reds and oranges, funky camera, teach you to get a cult camera.

I just took another 90 shots at the park with BB on his lunch break. Wait til you see the grasshoppers doing the nasty.

Grasshoppers doing the nasty?!!? I'm shocked. ... well ... no.

As always, great pics! I've always been a traditionalist when it comes to taking pictures, but I'm getting closer to buying a digital camera after seeing what they can do.

Evening eveyone, we have just got in from our local dive shop and Bob is sat in the living room with a new pair of boots, IST titaniums, and a new pair of fins, Atomic Aquatic splitfin. He has rather large feet and he is taking up half the living room. It's a good job we are setting off in 18 days, I am going to have to get the dive bags out just to put his fins away. I got a new pair of boots too. They have very good soles so I will have even more confidence getting into the water on shore dives. I hope everyone is feeling much better after all their colds. Bob has been on antibiotics for an ear infection. we were worried but it seems to be clearing up now!

Lisa - these are for you. I've never really taken pictures before - except for the occasional family pix. I am having a ball with the Olympus. (LOVE your profile shot!)

I think the female is on the bottom. That grasshopper was larger and had a fat abdomen. No smart comments from the peanut gallery. LOL She was jumping around from plant to plant and he just hung on for dear life!

Thanks Rusty, isn't it funny to think that there are people thousands of miles away worrying about someones cold, someones bronchitis, everyones high blood pressure and my bad toenails?! I really want to see Joss' baby photos and I wonder if Eileen will be able to post a scan? I found myself cursing Martines rotten airline for giving her a bad day! Our BT group seems to share a lot. I have a big day tomorrow as it is a presentation night for our older students who got their exams despite being too ill to go to school. There will be press and big wigs and hangers on but I am looking forward to celebrating the kids success!

I usually do not like spraying for things, but this spring we has SUCH a grasshopper investation that I had to. The local exention agent said that 5-10 /sq yard was worth getting worried about. I was counting over 50 in a sq ft., I figure that we had around 4-500/sq yard. They were EVERYWHERE. I ended up doing 6 major sprays, once a week for 3 weeks then every other week.(every week around the garden and the flowers) We still have plenty of hoppers, probably in the 5-10/yd range and some with locust coloring. I am hoping for a wet winter/spring to kill off the eggs.

clint bug

Clint - were they just gross and annoying or were they gobbling your plants? I admit that when I go to Florida to visit my Momz I get grossed out entirely by the four inch or more grasshoppers down there eating everything in her garden. They are so loud when they chomp, too. Ugh.

More *bugs*. Doesn't that sound like a less-than-fitting appellation for the butterflies?

No, I can take gross and annoying. They EAT & EAT & EAT! Last year in places they ate all the leaves off most everything up to about 4' high, including the day lillys and peppers, They even stripped the HORSERADDISH(now that's serious munching). It has been so dry throughout the central states(drought conditions for the last 3-4 years) that the eggs and nimphs all survive and they just keep multiplying. Then when they get REALLY over populated they morph into locusts and swarm, now that's SCARRY.

Been lucky in our neck of the woods, not too many grasshoppers. But I do get to battle the squirrels & bunnies when it comes to enjoying my flowers.

Rusty, are those b&w pics from a movie? And if so, what was it called, do you know? (I'd seen one involving giant grasshoppers on Mystery Science Theater 3000 years ago).

btw, my profile shot is of the only turtle we saw while honeymooning on St. John this past June. We were snorkeling, turned around, and there it was. It will always be known as our "sacred turtle" and, aside from our wedding photos, is one of my favorite shots from that trip.

The pictures are old post cards that exagerated the "wildness" of the west. You find simular pictures with fish and misquitos!! and they are still available in a lot of tourist stops.

Hi Annie, my toenails have caused a lot of 'Chalk on Blackboard' moments but I think every family has to have someone that makes tham cringe! I just don't want to be that person all the time. I want to be the quiet but sensitive member of the group but actually I'm the bossy organiser and wish I wasn't.I have my role!

Annie - your toon reminded me of this one I found a while back. LOL Good timing actually - we just finished watching The Others with Nicole Kidman. I hate scary movies - I don't know why I agreed to watch it with BB. At least it wasn't gory. Just suspenseful - and I figured it out about halfway thru - so much for the twist at the end.

Rusty. I love scarey movies, and I watched that one twice. I cottoned on to that they were ghosts too. Have you seen The Thirteenth Ghost. Now that is quite scarey upon first time viewing, and quite gorey too. I just love the horror stuff. Really off to bed now. Sweet dreams. Annie B.

Annie! scream I think that if I hadn't seen Sixth Sense *I see dead people* and read somewhere that The Others had a shocking twist at the end, I might not have guessed where it was going. That's one problem with critics and movie previes who give too much away - sometimes the whole story! Stupid!!

read

I can only read that scary stuff - then I can squint and skim thru the really exaggerated BOO parts. I spent half the movie burying my face against Bob's shirt when the music started doing that thing with the kettle drums. LOL And I really don't go for gore - yet some of my favorite movies are horribly *wet*. When I recommend something like Reservoir Dogs I sometimes forget to mention to people that I closed my eyes during most of it.

=:0

PS One of the things I liked about the mint photo was the fact that you can see the square stem. Most mints have square stems - an almost surefire giveaway to the family. And *sedges have edges* or three sided stems.

We saw Lost in translation Monday, I suggest no one see this movie. It is the pits.
