I just saw on the news that they have downgraded Isabel to tropical storm level. It still looks pretty frightful to me though. I hope that you are all safe and sound today. Annie B.

waah Waah. I need some homemade chicken soup. I feel dog-awful, Annie B. This cold hit hard and fast and I am coughing and whining. My throat is so sore that every time I cough I want to scream - which wouldn't help matters a bit - and it scares the dogs. My eyes are rolling around in my head from the cold medicine. That's the only good part. LOL

blowing

The weather outside is frightful but not threatening. It's pouring hard but the wind isn't blowing. I went out to take a couple pix but the rain chased me in. Don't want a BT Waterlogged Camera (patent pending!)

pc

THEN the PC has locked up about three times right in the middle of something so I'll post this and cross my fingers for luck. (Hold thumbs in South Africa.)

thanks XOXOX Thanks Annie. I just came in for a little tea and sympathy. I don't know how long I can sit here without dozing off. I took the cold capsules with antihistamine last night and got really groggy so I tried the non-drowsy today and I feel really groggy. LOL

comet I did take some fish pix before the rain started again - but my timing is off. I like the swirls in this but I keep missing the fraction of a second that the goldfish kiss the surface for the flakes. Too wet out there to keep trying.

Went for my usual bp check this morning. pressureThe good news is that all is ok. Bad news. I may have to take the combination of meds for the rest of my life, and I don't like taking drugs long term. Wagh. Extra good news is that I don't have to go back for another three months. Annie B.

Keep sipping the chicken soup Rusty. soup You know it's good for you.

I think Mary is ok Rusty. I am sure she said that the storm had eased off a little. Haven't seen Meryl anywhere today. That's a great fishy picture, but if you keep going out in the rain your cold will get much worse. anything You best stay inside gal. Annie B.

Monterey Jazz Festival Day!

The Monterey Jazz Festival is the longest running jazz festival in the world.
It began as a dream for founder Jimmy Lyons, a dream of a "sylvan setting with the best jazz people in the whole world playing on the same stage, having a whole weekend of jazz." sax

Hi girls - I am here and back at work -hence the delay in logging on - had meetings to attend to and things to catch up - was out of the office all week long.

Thanks to everyone for all of their thoughts yesterday - it was a long day of flickering power and big gusts of wind. We only got a couple of inches of rain - which helped!!

Damage minimal - huge oak tree next to my neighbors house fell and took several trees with it - no property damage - but a big hole in the skyline now. We just have tree limbs and lots of debris from the trees all over the yard and deck - will have fun picking up this weekend.

Went to bed with the rain pouring and the wind howling last night - woke up to crystal cleat blue sky and no wind - what a relief!!!!!

Still many co-workers that do not have power - I was one of the lucky ones - usually we are this first with out power!!!

Again thanks for all of you thoughts yesterday.

Meryl - happy to see that everything is okay with you!!!

I like the ViewMaster mask on 12:22 - you can watch stereo images of Rome while you dive in Bonaire. Never a dull moment. LOL

delirious

I'm delirious. I'm still here but massive doses of cold meds have rendered me zoned out. At least the cough is under control again. These Contac-type drugs say 6 hours or twelve hours and always work about 66% of the projected coverage. Must have something to do with redheads needing more painkillers and anesthesia. (Wow! My spelling has actually improved. Hmm)

computer

And I keep getting knocked off so what I was trying to say was THANKS for the pix of the toys from our friend Freddie! I missed half the pix today on cam having to reboot every half hour or so. Grrrr.

This hit me as sort of amusing. I just went out and the day is trying to decide if it should be sunny and warm or wet and muggy.

hurr Hoax pic of Isabel

isabel

Comments from about.com: This image began circulating via email on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003 as Hurricane Isabel bore down on the eastern seaboard of the United States. It seems to have been intentionally mislabeled. According to a Web page of the National Weather Service, the photo, credited to Steve Todd, actually documents a tropical cyclone in the Pacific Ocean six months earlier named "Graham."

I'd grow veggies just to attract the deer. LOL Almost all of our tomatoes went to feeding the iguanas this summer. They're fat and sassy now.)

tinman Today is also the Wizard of Oz Festival

Come with us over the Rainbow to the Wonderful Land Of Oz. Chesterton, Indiana invites you to be our guests at the 22nd annual Wizard of Oz Festival on Friday, September 19th through Sunday, September 21st, 2003. Celebrate with the original Munchkins from the 1939 MGM film classic the "Wizard of Oz". Join Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man, Glinda the Good Witch, the Wicked Witch, Scarecrow and even a winged Monkey as we celebrate everything OZ!

Why in Chesterton?
The Wizard of Oz Festival was founded in 1982 by Jean Nelson, owner of the Yellow Brick Road Gift Shop and Oz Fantasy Museum, in response to the depressed economy in the region. As the Festival grew, the Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce recognized its economic value to their members and the community as a whole, and in 1987 became the Festival's sponsor. Currently in its 22nd year, the Wizard of Oz Festival draws record crowds from all over the United States and several foreign countries. The Festival continues to thrive because of the family oriented values instilled by the 1939 MGM film classic "The Wizard of Oz" , an enduring literary classic written by L. Frank Baum.

italy Meryl - you're missing the Saint Gennaro Feast Day in New Yawk! Seb - check it out for us. Sounds fun and funky.

The San Gennaro Festival

Little Italy's famous festival of San Gennaro is a haven for fans of all things Italian - especially the food - which takes place over 11 days every September on Mulberry St.

italian

Heaped with religious kitsch and Euro-tackiness, the event offers 11 days of sensory overload in Lower Manhattan's Little Italy. The Italian community's oldest, largest and liveliest fiesta, San Gennaro is a playground for tourists and a nostalgia trip down fairy-lit, Italian-flagged memory lane for even the most jaded New Yorker. It attracts more than three million people to Mulberry St for food, games, rides, a parade and a religious procession.

pasta

If you're on a diet, forget about it; Gennaro is strictly about consumption. Most famous for its sausage, onion and pepper sandwiches, the fiesta also boasts Zepole (sugary fried dough balls) and a range of Italian pastries. There is gelati galore, cannolis and Italian ices ready to be washed down with multicoloured fruity flutes of cheap booze (no doubt accountable for the fights that occasionally break out!).

train To get to Mulberry St, take 6 train to Bleecker St and walk east a block.

Strangely tropical wind coming in the windows in our house right now. BB mentioned it when he came upstairs and I noticed it when I was hanging out the upstairs bathroom window to take a shot of this rara avis. We hardly ever see these rock doves in our suburban neighborhood. I'm thinking they are Meryl's buddies and they stopped by on their way South to New Joisey.

pidge

He's standing on the roof that needs replacement this fall. Joy. Joy. We've been stalling for a while. Get it fixed now or get more buckets. LOL

hobbit

Hobbit night tonight! Yippee! I am so psyched. I think the mind-altering cold medicine is making me crave hobbit holes and wizards and gold rings. We bought the second episode yesterday at Walmart so we'll start with the first video tonight (again!) and work our way to the second tomorrow night. We saw it at the cinema but I love being able to pause the tape and roll it back at the good parts.

I get an email newsletter called Dead End and it chronicles the passing of famous and interesting folks. These two deaths got under my radar this week so maybe you missed them, too.

ufo SHEB WOOLEY, ACTOR/SINGER/COMEDIAN, DEAD AT 82

Actor, singer, musician, comedian Sheb Wooley whose career
spanned 7 decades in Hollywood and Nashville died Tuesday in
Nashville, Tenn., of leukemia. He was 82. His last public
appearance was last Sunday at a wake for his long-time
friend, Johnny Cash who died last Friday.

He appeared in films including "High Noon," "War Wagon,"
"Giant," "Distant Drums," "Rio Bravo" and "Seven Brides For
Seven Brothers." He was also on TV's "Rawhide." In 1958, his
recording of "Purple People Eater," about UFOs, sold 3 mil-
lion copies in three weeks.

LARRY HOVIS, ACTOR/SINGER/COMEDIAN, DEAD AT 67

Larry Hovis, the actor best known for his role as Sgt. Car-
ter on the television series "Hogan's Heroes," died last
week after a bout with cancer. He was 67.

He became famous when he starred on "Hogan's Heroes,"
in which he played one of a group of allied soldiers in a
German prisoner-of-war camp during World War II.

He was also a co-creator and performer on "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In."

I can still whistle (badly) the Theme to Hogan's Heroes. :-)

Rusty was Sgt. Carter the tall goofy looking one? I remember the name - but cannot remember what he looked like.

I had heard on NPR about the death of Sheb Wooley - after announcing they proceeded to play the Purple People Eater song - which I proceeded to sing along. Glad that no one was in the car with me - since I cannot carry a tune!!!

I think Carter was skinny and goofy looking and was always fixing things - like the Professor on Gilligan's Island - the original Survivor. Those are two shows that ran so many reruns when I was a kid and watching TV after school.

Annie - this one is for you.

A man goes to a doctor for a routine physical. The nurse starts with the basics. "How much do you weigh?" she asks. "Oh, 'bout One-sixty-five." he says. The nurse puts him on the scale. It turns out that his weight is 187.

The nurse asks, "Your height?" "Oh, 'bout six feet," he says. The nurse checks and sees that he's only 5 feet 8 3/4 inches.

She then takes his blood pressure, and it's very high.

"High!" The man explains, "Of course it's high. When I came in here, I was tall and lanky. Now, durnit, I'm short and overweight!"

Just got this from our IT Department:

There's a new email virus making the rounds. They appear to be from Microsoft and contain the title "Latest Microsoft Patch".

Do not open these emails.

Delete them immediately.

Microsoft does not email patches to customers, and you should be suspicious of any email that claims to contain a virus or security patch.

Watch out gang!

mothernature Nope, Meryl! I think it's dandy. You have a heart as big as all outdoors and you will get much joy from feeding the critters thru the hard winter ahead. The woodpeckers (which I keep trying to photograph) are spending a lot of time on the two suet feeders right now. Fattening up for the cold weather.
