We will fly in from Curacao for the day and would like to snorkel and see some of Bonaire. Any suggestions? We are leary renting a car, and just getting in the water to snorkel not knowing anything about the island or it's waters. This site has been very helpful. Suggestions appreciated.

There is a great beach right accross from the airport "Windsock Steep". Trees (kinda), benches, great beach, easy entry and super snorkeling. It is less than 50 meters from the airport entrance to the beach.

Thank you that is very helpful. Are there bathroom facilities at this beach with maybe a beach bar or restaurant?

Also very close to the airport (essentially across the road) is the Plaza Resort. You can rent a lounge chair on their very nice beach for $5 a day, and use their restaurants, bar, rest-rooms etc. Snorkeling is good -- especially to the south, i.e. in the direction of Windsock Beach, mentioned above, which does not have any amenities. Have a great day in Bonaire!

Elizabeth, thank you very much!!! This is great. We are going to be so close to Bonaire being in Curacao we at least wanted to check out this island since I have found this web site. You are all great!!! The web cams are really fun and we want to explore a little of this island and maybe spend a week next year.

I don't know what time you will be arriving on Bonaire, but the Woodwind is a trimaran that does guided snorkels over to Kline and a second stop to usually Andrea or Small Wall (where the uw cam is) and sails from the Divi (near the airport) around 8 or 8:30, depending on the day. They serve drinks and lunch and gets back between 1 and 2. We love it!

Thank you, I'm not sure we will get there in time for an 8am boat. We appreciate the information.

Cheryl: If in fact you decide on a day at the Plaza, you should know that, although the resort is certainly across from the airport, it may not be immediately apparent how to get there. On exiting the airport, turn right. Across the road and down to the right (can't exactly recall how far; 200 yds?) is the back entrance to the Plaza. Sign says something about a casino, though it is not actually very obviously marked as the Plaza. Go along this short road and pass through the gatehouse. You would then make your way through the resort, crossing bridges over two good sized creeks, until signage points to the beach. Locals hopefully will correct me here as needed. I'm sure you will love Bonaire -- though you will miss seeing the very cute downtown area. Not sure how long it would take to walk there from the Plaza.

Thank you very much for the detailed directions. I guess we would have had a problem finding the Plaza. Looks like we will do the 3 hour island tour and than hang out and snorkel around the Plaza until it is time to go back to Curacao. Thanks again,
