Could anyone tell us how far (in distance in the water) it is from LaDania's Leap to Karpata and also how long (time-wise) it would take to do the drift snorkel between these two points?

In August would one expect calm waters or a bit of a choppy sea?

Once you park your vehicle at Karpata is it quite a long hike to walk back to LaDania's Leap to get the snorkel started?

Any helpful info would be appreciated! We've read about this snorkel from others, and it sounds like something we'd definitely like to do. My wife and I have been snorkeling for the last 15 years, so we're both good swimmers and accustomed to being in the water a lot. Thanks!

The walk from the parking at Karpata back to LaDania is only about 5 minutes. In Feb there was not a yellow marker on the road but there was a small cairn at what was quite obviously a path -- easier seen when walking than when driving by. Once down the path (be sure to wear your booties!) move a few steps to the north of the marker in the water for an easy leap of about 2 feet. Make sure you have everything as there is no way back out once you are in! The snorkel can take as long or as short a time as you would like. It had been recommended to us to swim in a V pattern -- out for away and then back closer to shore and then out again. I think we were in the water for 45 minutes and we took our time. When you exit be sure to exit to the left of the cement pier as you face it from the water. And do not set masks or fins on the pier as sometimes waves will come up over the pier. Can't speak about conditions in August so maybe someone else can help you out there!

Susan -

Your detailed and specific reply to Larry also has helped the rest of us Bonaire snorkelers.

Little jewels, such as "there is no way back once you are in" and "exit to the left of the cement pier," are invaluable. They make all the difference in a difficult and disappointing snorkel and a fun and memorable experience.

Thank for taking time to share!

Thanks, Susan, for the information! A 5 minute walk is no big deal to enjoy a great snorkel! Appreciate your help and all the details of where to enter and exit!

Larry
