Hi all!

I am less than two weeks from vacation now. Can't believe it's finally almost here. Anyway, I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row to make sure I don't miss too much of the fun stuff when we're there. We are divers and snorellers. We will probably do half and half. Now I know Renee has the Woodwind cruise on Wednesdays, and we plan to do that. I read Bas say something about some sort of dinner/snorkel thing? Bas? Is this super expensive? It sounded like a lot of fun. Has anyone done the mangrove snorkel? How was that? Any other 'don't miss' snorkel trips or suggestions?

Thanks a bunch for your help :)

Stephanie -

We are all envious!

By all means try the mangrove snorkel, but by all means get very, very specific directions if you go on your own.

We went on our own with what we thought were specific directions. We saw nothing and I know it was simply because we didn't know exactly where to go. We see so many good reports from that area.

We'll be looking for a report!

We did the mangrove snorkel through Buddy Dive. We got a slide presentation before hand and a guided snorkel. It was well worth the few bucks to have the guide and some pre-discussion. It’s a very unique snorkel and I’ve never experienced anything quite like it before or since. It certainly is the nursery of the ocean.

Information on the Oscarina can be found at Oscarina. Bas can probably give you more info. We’re looking forward to checking this out in November. You should also check out Bonaire Sailing and Info Bonaire.

Additionaly Info Bonaire has a great snorkeling map. Bonaire Marine Park has information on the marine park.

I highly recommend getting a car and checking out some of the Snorkel Sites, which are a sub-set of the dive sites. Some of the nice ones were Windsoc, 1000 steps, & No Name on Klein Bonaire.

Everyone raves about Renee on the Woodwind too. Also if Jerry Ligon is still at the Sand Dollar he was an excellent snorkel guide.

Have a great time!

Scott

you can snorkel the customs pier.... no permission needed. Lots to see around the pilings and rocks. Enter on the side away from town... there's steps down to the water, if I remember correctly. The customs pier is the big pier furthest south from town (toward Divi Flamingo).

Rene's woodwind trips are good, as previously mentioned.

If you hook up with Bas, see if he'll take you on a drift snorkel from La Dania's Leap to Karpata, it was so much fun! And he also took me on a great night snorkel at Andrea II. My first one...all just last month!

Oh my, what PBD I have right now!

Don't forget 18th Palm (off Plaza Resort).. a nice easy entry, well worth a visit.

Oh, and if you do Ladania's to Karpata, don't have anything milky in your stomach! I loved my first snorkel, but the waves were BIG on the second one, and I almost ended up feeding the fish....

I second Ken & Lisa's recommendation on snorkeling at the customs pier (Hi, Guys!!! Will I see you next year on Bonaire??) It's a neat experience, and LOTS of great stuff to see. I loved the large green morey curled up in an old tire! (hate to see old tires strewn around, but at least it was put to good use...)
