Hi - We are visiting Bonaire this coming week. Do you recommend any great snorkel sites that I can hit, while with a group of divers on rebreathers? I have been many times - we stay at Plaza. I want to get one of those maps that have the snorkel sites. I usually just snorkel wherever the group dives. My fav is Andrea. Thanks for your help.

I enjoy Karpata and Margate just as much snorkelling as diving, also the old Sunset Beach property just s of Den Laman.

The south side offers a lot. Try Red Beryl. Divers can dive that site and you can enter there and snorkel down to Margate and back to Red Beryl. If you get tired, you can always get out anywhere and walk back to the truck. Nice 45 min. or so snorkel. :-) Did it a few weeks ago. Nice.

Tori's Reef is another one. You may also get to see an eagle ray by the dive buoy there snorkeling, we did. :-)

Thanks for responding - these are great ideas. Never tried these sites. I am low on totem pole, and seasoned divers I go with usually choose. I would love to see a Ray, but sharks are not my cup of tea. I don't have enough nerve to go with Larry. Margate Bay is one my group would like to go on, but could not in past, due to flooding and not able to get 4-6 trucks in area. I appreciate your replies and look forward to hitting the water 6/27!

Donna, if they do Margate, have them drop you off at Red Beryl, just a little south of Margate. The current will take you down to Margate while snorkeling. :-) Easy snorkel. Going the other way, from Margate to Red Beryl is against the current. More enjoyable from Red Beryl to Margate when snorkeling, less fin power needed.

Hey Debbie - Thanks - sounds like a great idea. I'm all for less fin power! Only 2 of our group have been to Margate on 1 occasion, so I would think the rest of us would enjoy a new site. Do you know if we can get to the site by truck, since in the past, it was flooded?

Yes, you can get to it by truck, since Omar, lots more coral on beach area, but did see trucks down there. Me, I park the truck roadside and walk down as when tide goes up, it floods, I just never know when that is going to happen, so the short walk to the water isn't a problem diving or snorkeling.

Donna, the info I gave you was for the Margate site.
For Red Beryl, you have to park roadside, there is a pull off right there for it. :-)

hey donna,

a beautiful snorkel site I find is also 1000 steps, Bari Reef has lots to offer as well, especially the old remains off the pier, now know as the aquarium.

Both the drift dive and the drift snorkel from La Dania's Leap to Karpata are stunning

I agree, Bas, we enjoy doing both when on island. :-)
