We have full foot fins right now but I guess we will be getting open heel fins for this trip, can we wear our regular rubber soled water shoes with them or do we need special boots? Also what kind of fins do they have to be really expensive? We will be snorkling every day that is what we will be there for. Thanks

Susan, try to buy your fins and boots together so that you get a good fit. The fins need not be expensive, high end ones. Tusa has an open heel that is less than 30 dollars and works well for snorkeling. I believe it is called "Liberator." Your boots do not need to have a sole like a hiking boot but you will certainly want something substantial. Last Feb friends purchased low cut booties for snorkeling Bonaire for under 25 dollars a pair.

At the suggestion of one of the posters on BT, I just purchased a pair of Seasoft Sunrays for my first trip to the island in early September.

It sounds like the shoreline and other hazards might eat right through a lesser product.

These are pretty stout!

Ditto..I bought 2 pair of the seasoft & used them in March. I did however have to lengthen the heel straps quite a bit on my fins because of the thick hard sole.
Prior to that I was using Henderson boots.

We snorkeled in March, up to 6 hours a day at the different sites. I used just the snorkel/dive socks and my husband had the rubber soled bottom socks. Neither of us had any problems on the coral entries and exits. We use the open back fins.!

I like barefoot snorkeling best, but in really ouch places I use Zoomers. This are the competitive training shorties. You can walk in and out easily and have fin power if you want.

You might want to try the new Crocs Hydros that can be used as mini-fins too.
