First time to Bonaire, two things would like to do most snorkeling & sailing.

Are there any sharks or ever any issues such as that?

I don't think you'll see any shark.. of everyone we talked to when we were there for 2 weeks, we were the only ones who saw even a nurse shark.. and that was over in lac bay in about 6' of water. The only other shark we saw was a small dead one of about 3' in length laying on the beach.. maybe a reef shark? They were the only sharks we heard about..
Don't worry about them.

Silvi..Welcome to BT..If you're snorkeling no need to worry about sharks on Bonaire. However, I can see by your photo, what you really need to worry about is the sun. :-) Have fun.

shark attacks typically occur in low visibility and such is never the case on bonaire...not to mention there are very few sharks to start with...though i myself get a little nervous when diving in sandy, stirred up water (shallows at fish hut)when there is a bait ball with large baracudas escourting it...i swim the other way:-)

You don't need to worry about sharks, barracuda or morays in Bonaire waters. They want fish, not humans, not red meat. I once annoyed a moray by trying to poke a hot dog in his mouth. He would have none of it. The only things to avoid are stepping on long-spine sea urchins or brushing against fire coral, and neither of these is serious. If you step on a sea urchin and the spine lodges in you, just soak it in fresh water and it will withdraw of its own accord.

Silvi,
The most dangerous thing on Bonaire is UVA/UVB. It is potent down there. The waters around Bonaire are as safe as anywhere in the Caribbean. If you see a shark, be thankful, because are really rare. Maybe a rare jelly or two.
Bonaire is blessed with really competent medical professionals.
I guess addiction is a problem on Bonaire. It seems everyone who goes there gets addicted to the place.
