Hi - we will be on Bonaire shortly for our first visit. We definitely plan to do a trip on the Woodwind but would appreciate some input. Looking at the photos of the Woodwind I gather everything is open with no sun protection. I would love to do the Wednesday trip that is five hours but worry about being in the sun with no relief for that long. Any feelings on that from those of you that have done Woodwind trips? We cover up and lather up but don't want to be stupid about the sun. THANKS! sue

Susan, it is open but not to worry. We have done the Woodwind trips since Renee owned the boat and have never burned. We too lather up and repeat after each snorkel. Also, we wear caps/hats and a t-shirt after snorkeling.

oooo i need to get me a fun hat, do they sell some good ones on the island? Usually in the caribbean i can find anyone on the streets selling something but doesn't sound like it's like that there in bonaire.

We had our caps and t-shirts, and twisted a towel around our legs, but forgot to protect our bare feet!!! Auch!
Have a good time on Bonaire, and enjoy the Woodwind. Don't forget to make a night snorkel with Dee

We did the trip yesterday, our fourth day of the holliday. That's a little early when it comes to sunburn, but when you protect yourself with high protection sunscreen, wear a shirt, hat, maybe use a towel to cover legs, after some time, you'll be fine, as where we!

Susan,

I was on Bonaire two weeks ago and I had originally reserved a shorter trip on the Woodwind, but there weren't enough people signed up to go and the trip was cancelled. The 5-hour trip was offered as an option, and we reluctantly agreed to go. I was worried about sun exposure, too. Dee kindly offered to let me go below deck into the shade if I needed to.

We both wear full dive suits as well as hoods to protect our fair skin from the sun, so while in the water we were protected. While on the boat we made sure to cover up with lightweight long sleeves, hats, towels and liberal use of sunscreen. We really enjoyed ourselves and didn't get burned.

So, with proper protection you should be all right. Just be diligent with the cover-up, whether it's sleeves, towels, sunscreen, or whatever!

Just don't NOT go! There is so much to see and Dee and Ulf do a great job.

We also did the night snorkel with Dee and it should NOT be missed!!!

We have gone to Bonaire for 20 years and the highlight of each trip is always the times on the Woodwind This is the creme de cream of a trip. The breeze, the view, the sail, the different sites, the mermaid guide Dee, (she is a dancer in water) is a portrait in motion. If I had to wear a total body suit, I would but usually find the application of sunscreen and prudence will do you well on the day trip. DO NOT miss this very special experience.
