Has anyone gone cave snorkeling recently? There had been some posts in the past about this and some environmental concerns...

Now there's an interesting thought.. I didn't know Bonaire had caves but see by this : http://www.nsscds.org/bonaire1.htm that they do.. the only caves I've breathhold dived in are the cenotes in mexico.. I always wonder if the signs that say "scuba divers! you must be cave certified to go beyond this point!" does that mean us snorkelers too? Always wanted my picture taken by one of those signs.

The cave snorkeling does not require "breath holding." They are guided tours that are arranged by the dive shops. Steven, as I suggested before, please do a keyword search at the bottom of this page for "cave" and or "cave snorkeling" and you will come up with some reports.

We did a cave snorkel (guided of course) within walking distance of the Caribbean Club. Outdoor Bonaire was the outfit that took us through (there is a link on the Bonaire Site home page). One section had us going under for 15-20 seconds before coming up into a small gallery with stalactites, stalagmites and such. It was a good (and safe) experience. As far as we know, there are no big caverns with long underwater swims on Bonaire. You really don't use a snorkel as it can get in the way, just a mask. No fins either; they kick up too much silt.

Cynde, Thanks for the advice. I had tried to search as you suggested but did not see any recent posts.
Donald, Thanks for the report.
