I haven't had a question in quite a while! :-) Where do the people who snorkel and do other water sports get their tags??? I don't think I ever saw it posted.

Darlene,

You usually get them at the dive shop where you are staying. Where are you staying while on Bonaire?

Darlene, don't you have one from March? Or was the new rule not in effect? I'm so excited we will be on the same flight in October! PLUS it will be the first time I've made it to Bon twice in one year, I get to use my tag more than once! LOL!

Cynde,

Non-divers had to start buying tags as of April 1 - the new rule was not in effect in March.

I know that Darlene has always bought a Marine Park tag, even though it was not required of snorkelers. So she has one now. I don't know how the rule will apply but I should think she should get to snorkel on that one, since she paid for it what snorkelers pay now...

The tag covers all water sports the snorckers tag is different then the divers tag but the divers tag is all you need to cover snorkling. If you buy a snorkle tag and want to dive you have to pay all over again for the divers tag.. Ron

As I understood, divers as well as snorkelers, windsurfers and kayakers have to pay for one and the same tag, $25. Showing this tag, you don't have to pay the entrance fee in Washington Slagbaai. Am I right?

I'm tempted to wear my tag around my neck back here in NJ!! LOL. I'm so proud to have it....folks would definitely think I'd gone over the edge, tho. A nice colorful ribbon...hmmmm. Might look like a dog tag to some others, however...LOL. No, just a fish ID tag in case I get lost and can be tracked....ha ha.

It's a nice tag and I'm glad, as a snorkeler, to have been able to participate in supporting the Marine Park, etals. Carole

We are divers & do other WATER activities; we will buy the dive tag; we will put the dive tag on our BC's for diving. Will we need to take the tags off our BC's take them with us if we want to windsurf? Snorkel? Go to the Park? Then put them back on the BC's when we dive again??????

You get a paper receipt when you buy the tag. You take that with you to do the park and other land-based things.

For other water stuff, I'd either put the paper in a waterproof box and bring it with me, or cut the tag off your bc and just make sure to have a few plastic ties handy so you can replace it. We alway's bring lots of the plastic ties anyway, for going through the airport.

Or have the dive op tie the tag to a diver's plastic snap hook and then use it where you need it!

Or use a brass split ring to attach it where you need it. :–)

Thanks everyone for your help! Sue and Cynde are both right. I do have my dive tag from March but like Sue said, I like to support the Marine Park so I buy a tag on every trip. It seems like such a small price to pay for the serenity that I receive in return from the under water beauty!
Cynde, I am sooooo excited that we are meeting in San Juan on the way to paradise!!!!!

Hi all! I am the director of the Bahamas National Trust. We manage the country's 25 national parks and marine protected areas. We are considering launching a dive/snorkel tag program here to help fund our conservation and enforcement activities. Any pointers? What works especially well and what are the pit falls? How much is reasonable to expect a diver to pay for the tag? Will a voluntary program work? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Chris, STINPA actually handles the marine park tags et. al. I believe Jack Caulk is now head of the organization (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Email them as well, I'm sure they will provide lots of feedback and information.
