Where do you keep your rental car key, licence, money credit card when snorkeling

Hi James,

I keep my keys, a small amount of paper currency and sometimes a credit card in a water proof box, carrying them with me when in the water.

I have not carried my drivers' licence in the past. However, as Randy P. suggested on another thread, I might photocopy and laminate my licence and carry the copy with me in the future.

I put my key on a wrist thing and that is all I usually have on me. I also have a small water proof box if I need it for Credit card and money.
FYI The bank will not except a laminated photo copy of your license for cashing travelers checks. They have to see the real thing.

The waterproof boxes really work well, and you can keep a lot of things in them (their size varies) As for the driver's licence, I (at the advice of other well-versed BT'ers) kept a photocopy in the glove box of the rental...in case I was pulled over (which din't happen)...it's all you really need. Unless you are planning on shopping or spending money right after your snorkle, it would probably be prudent to leave the credit cards and larger amounts of cash in your room safe. Darlene....did the bank on Bonaire accept you DL as ID verification? I had to produce my passport (original)....maybe I looked devious.

James, the waterproof box works well but just know they are rarely dry inside at the end of a dive. It's more of a compartment than anything. Not a big problem, just remember what you put in it can get wet but will be secure.

Smack, Thanks, I forgot to mention that my waterproof box only holds water in, not out;-{)}

Cam,
You got me thinking now. The trip before last is when I had the hard time trying to use the copied license and this past trip I used my passport just to make sure there were no hassles but now I really don't remember if just a license is acceptable.
Tom, I'm blushing!!! Everyone here knows how cold I get in the water! :-)

James,

I found a "waterproof" fanny pack online - it is so comfortable I forget I have it on.

As mentioned above, don't believe the "waterproof" claim - only carry items in it that can get wet without being damaged.

Belinda

My car keys (plus marine tag and o-rings) are clipped on my bcd. Everything else, I leave at home in a safe. I don't need any money or credit card when I dive.

Last January I lost my Keys, Money, License, and a memory card for my camera in one of the waterproof Boxes. It happened as we were exiting, and the box was on my wife’s wrist. It was banged against the rocks and popped open.

I managed to retrieve everything, except for the memory card, with some pictures. I now go with an Aqua-pac product that is “waterproof” and cannot be accidentally opened.

If you want something that is completely waterproof, Kwik Tek makes a variety of sizes for waterpoof bags. I have one for my GPS and VHF radio when I go out on my Sea Doo. The aligator wallet size looks like the right size. It also comes with a lanyard to clip to something.

I put some money and whatever else I think I need in a waterproof "otter case" and then put it in one of my BC pockets, zipped up. Haven't lost anything yet. Knock wood.

I put keys, license, money in ziplock bag & zip it inside my wetsuit. There is no way it's getting out. Everything is wet at the end of a dive, but it's safe.

I just returned from diving in the caverns in North Florida & wouldn't do this with the all-in-one keys that many US automakers produce.

I have a "waterproof" fanny pack but found it works best if you put everything in a ziplock bag first then put it in the fanny pack. I then found things stay pretty dry that way. Just have to be careful when removing items if the pack is still wet.

I put the truck keys inside my diveskin. With the wetsuit on top, they don't go anywhere. I never thought of bringing a license, I've never been stopped in 4 visits. If we need money, we go back to the room. Towels, litre water bottles, cheap sunglasses, and tanks for the next/previous dive remain in the truck.

We tried an allegedly waterproof fanny pack and the Splash Caddy while snorkeling in the Virgin Islands, both leaked. (Wet money is not a problem--10 seconds in the microwave dries it.) When shore diving in Bonaire, I keep my keys on a keychain lanyard around my neck, tucked under a T-shirt or dive skin. We hid a small plastic bag with my glasses, hearing aid and cash in the locking gas cap compartment on the truck.
