Thanks to BT for giving us ideas for new snorkeling spots for our most recent trip like the suggestion that Deb had posted back in October 2004. It was one of the better sites that we visited and the entry is super easy. I can't describe it any better than she did..........

"There is one other spot to the right of Windsock by a little yellow building in the direction of the airport, very shallow entry, but a whole lot of fish there, in August I saw a turtle, cornetfish, and a whole lot of other species, too many to name, with my kids, all in 10-12 feet of water. You can snorkel from that building area all the way down to Windsock, turn and come back or walk back, there is no current!"

We snorkeled the "yellow hut" site also, two weeks ago. When we first entered the water, we thought we were trapped between the shore and a reef about 20 feet offshore, in less than four feet of water, until we found the opening into deeper water to the left, toward Windsock.

We also found the fish life here to be very rich, around both sides of the near reef and around other reef outcroppings toward Windsock. We snorkeled only as far as the jet fuel pier and back, but we were quite happy. We took our time, and spent well over an hour. This isn't a lush site for coral, but there are some healthy stands of both stag horn and, right in the shallows at the beach, elk horn. We finished by just lying in 3 feet of water, watching the fish swim under the branches of the coral. Lovely!

David

Hi Barry!

Glad you liked that spot! We love going there as well and I think it is one of the best kept secrets on Bonaire. You just never know what you are going to see there. :-)

David, We have also entered in all the way toward the right side of the yellow building, there's a little beach down below and you enter there with the big boulder on your left. Easier and then you just snorkel around the boulder and voila, you are already on the outside of the reef! Be sure to watch boat traffic there as well. Hubby figured that one out and said it was easier entry.
