Hi,
in which snorkeling sites have you seen sea turtles? I've heard that Karpata should be 'the place' to see them, but at least on our last trip we did not see any :-(

Both times we've been to Bonaire now, we have seen several turtles at Klein Bonaire: No Name beach. No turtles seen at other sites (so far, hope to see them again in 18 days!).
First time there, we went on a snorkel trip on the Woodwind, went to No Name for a drift snorkel, and the first thing I saw when I put my head under the surface was a turtle! Needless to say my mask immediately flooded because of my huge smile ;-)

We just got back from Bonaire on Sunday night and we saw lots of Turtles - Hawksbills and Green Turtles. We saw them at La Machaca, Ebo's Reef and Jerry's reef (both close to No Name beach), Rappel and Karpata and several other sites. The water taxi will take you to Klein Bonaire. Renee is also very good for taking people snorkelling.

The best encounter we had was at Rappel were we met the turtle as we turned in the dive and we were lucky as the Hawksbill stayed a few feet away from us for the 30 minutes it took to get back to the boat. My wife Sue got a cool picture of it which won the Habitat monthly photo contest see http://www.habitatdiveresorts.com/bonaire/photo_monthly_winners.html

Karin have a super trip.

We saw a few at Sorobon, out by the fisherman's pier. Try there. Also, we saw a couple at the Red Slaves and Tori's Reef on the south end. Best of Luck

I sail and snorkel on the Woodwind frequently and I would say that I see at least one turtle on at least 95% of my drifts that they do at Kline. Sometimes I see two or three and once I saw six in one snorkel!!! :-) This past trip I did see one at Pietre's Pillar and one at Andrea.

After seven trips to Bonaire and dozens of turtle sightings, I look at it like I look at searches for most wildlife: they usually don't show up when you're looking for them, and usually do show up when you're not looking for them. Two years in a row we saw turtles every time we went to Karpata, then on our next trip we went to Karpata three times and saw none. Once we spent four days in the north woods of Maine looking every day for moose and bald eagles -- nothing. But I have seen a moose trotting along side a busy interstate 95, and have seen bald eagles over a car dealership in Amesbury MA and over the old factories in Lawrence MA. Wildlife above and below water just seems to show up at the most unexpected times.

That said, we've seen turtles at Karpata, Oil Slick Leap, Buddy Reef, Jeff Davis (two on one dive), Weber's Joy (huge green turtle), Petrie's Pillar, Sampler on Klein Bonaire (huge 4-foot loggerhead sleeping during a night dive -- very cool), numerous Klein Bonaire sites....that's off the top of my head. Always keep your eyes open; very often at the end of a ho-hum not-too-exciting dive, just when I've decided I'm ready to get out, is when something cool happens. And per Murphy's law, it always happens when you do NOT have a camera.....

Nearest Point, and Bari Reef I think. (Cynde, is that right? Bari?) For some reason, I think Cynde and I may have seen one at Small Wall also.

I have to agree with Scott, just sit there and take in the life that is around you. You will see more then your brain can compute. I live in Amesbury that Scott is talking about, I have never seen the Eagles, but they are all over the place.
