We have seen pods of dolphins near shore while on Bonaire but never near us while snorkeling.

I know friends that snorkeled with dolphins in the Punt Vierfunt/Belnem area. One time it was quite early in the morning and the dolphins were practically at the ladder into the ocean. Another time a couple was coming up from a dive and met dolphins on the return surface swim.

While doing a research dive for the BMP, a couple divers saw dolphins. We heard them underwater but did not see them until we exited. This was north of town in the restricted area.

I also used to see them often swimming south when we lived on the water at Small Wall.

Saw a pod of probably 40 at Andrea II about 20 yards off shore at 8:30AM in July. They passed by the time we entered.

Add me to the list - I saw dolphins THREE times in July! Once at Eden Beach, close enough to shore to get good pics of them, and twice at Punt Vierkant. I'll get lucky one day and actually be IN the water when they roll by...

When I was there in October,I heard there was a lone dolphin that was actually hanging out with divers and people snorkeling. He was seen mostly near the southern end of the island. Ask around, maybe he is still there! I wasn't lucky enough to see him!

This past August, there was a mother and baby dolphin swimming near some of the south end sites. I heard about them from Renee who actually was fortunate enough to be in the water with them a time or two.

A few days later, my wife and I were in the water at Jeff Davis, I believe. We were snorkeling in separate areas when I saw the mother and baby in the distance. I tried to catch them, but they were too fast for me. I also tried to take a picture, but it didn't turn out.

Just one more good reason to return to Bonaire!

I was there in 2001 stayed at the Bel-mar Conds. Saw pods on two different days, I was able to get some good underwater shots from about 15 - 20 feet away. We were totally shocked because we were told it was very hard to see them under the water, because they do not like the noise the regulators make. First time in six years of diving. In the process of creating a web page of different places my wife and I have been in the last six years. If you would like me to send you some photos, my email address is pwrbigsd01@charter.net
