Over a month with no post... I guess we will have the surface all to ourselves next month.

I noticed that too. I will be going in Oct and if I ever have the time, I may post my very late March report! :-)
Did you see the awesome write up on Renee of Reneesnorkeltrips.com in the Bonaire Reporter? They did a real nice job. There was stuff I didn't know about Renee and I have been snorkeling with her for 8 trips! She does have a great talent for finding the little critters and her love for them shows when she is in the water with you.

Joe - you wont't be alone - I also snorkeled and dove the whole 2 weeks I was down there. My hubby did at least 3 snorkels a day - could not get enough of it!!! Even got up at 8:00 am on vacation to get in the water!!!!

In additional to Renee - who does great snorkel trip - I would also highly recommend Dee - Ulf's wife - they own the Woodwind. (which my the way they bought from Renee) She does a great night snorkel of of the town pier. You can sign up at the activity desk at the Divi. I have done 2 night snorkels with her and will go back to her every trip - she is very fun to go out with.

My husband & I are snorkelers and will be on the island (first trip) Sept 17-26. I've read almost all the posts on Snorkeling Bonaire & have printed out many of the recommendations. Your tips are appreciated.

Gail - the first trip I did to Bonaire - I only snorkeled.

You can snorkel at most dive sites!!

I would highly recommend you do a Mangrove snorkel with the Mangrove Kayak and Info Center. Very interesting and educational.

As I mentioned above Dee - the current owner of the Woodwind does an excellent night snorkel at the Town Pier.

You can also take a trip on the Woodwind with Dee and Ulf to go to Klein Bonaire and do a drift snorkel there.

Favorite snorkel sites
Magrove
Andrea II
Wayaka II (in the park)
Sorobon (in Lac Bay) -Liz and Ed recommend we do this the last trip and it was worth it - just a long walk out to where the waves are breaking over the coral (just past the swim docks)
Toris Reef

I have heard that Windsock Beach is very nice - but did not have a chance to go there.

One other thing - make sure that you have plenty of protection from the sun - or your back and the back of your legs will burn. Plus you will need booties to walk across the coral rubble.

We'll be back for two weeks at the end of August with our four kids. Last summer, my husband and I felt we saw almost as much stuff snorkeling with the children as we did diving. We are all so ready to swim with the fishies. Missed out on the Lac Bay snorkel last year, but did Wayaka II and Andrea II--they were probably our favorite snorkel spots. There is always a nice-sized barracuda at Windsock and it is easy to get in and out there.

Elizabeth, how old are your kids? I'm curious since we will be visiting over Thanksgiving with our 7 year old twins. I would love to hear about the places you visit on your trip and which were the favorite snorkeling sights. My husband and I will be diving in the morning and would love some great spots to visit as a family in the afternoon. Are you planning on doing a trip report?

Claudia, our children are 9, 6, 4 and 4. Your twins are the perfect age for Bonaire. They will love the easy snorkeling, the Donkey Sanctuary, and spotting other Bonairean creatures along the way---flamingos, pelicans, trupials, iguanas, goats. There are caves to explore and a really cool blowhole in Washington Park. Please feel free to email me with questions.

For the sake of discussion, has anyone who has snorkeled in Bonaire also snorkeled any of the Honduran Bay Islands. We were in Bonaire last fall, staying at the Plaza and enjoying the easy entry from their beach into great snorkeling. Only went to two other sites, 1000 Steps and Windsock as we found that we enjoyed the convenience (and security) of just staying on property. I have been researching the Bay Islands and have come up with some pros and cons. Opinions please. Thanks.

Opps, sorry. Don't use bulletin boards very often. Should have posted the above message as a new thread. Kind of feel like a student driver. I'll leave it in the hands of the moderator to channel correctly.

Susan, you can just start a new thread under Community Chat, with the title about snorkeling in Honduras Bay...no need to move these threads. I will just add a link to your new thread once you get it started:-)
