Hi,
I have no snorkel gear at all, so what will it cost to rent it (per day)? And are there places to rent at all?
Thanks!
Heike

Welcome to the board Heiki.

I took a quick look at one of the shops I know and they rent mask, fins and snorkel for $7USD per day. If it's possible, I would suggest that you invest in at least your own mask and snorkel. It is very important that a mask fit you correctly and sometimes it's hard to get a rental mask that fits. The mask does not have to be expensive, one of the cheaper mask fits me great and as a diver I will pay whatever is necessary to get a good fitting mask. I hate a leaking mask. Spend some time, check out every mask you can find and buy the one that fits you best. A good dive shop can help you make your selection but I would still try every place you can before buying. The snorkel does not have to be expensive either, a simple one with a large bore (size of the tube)works well for most people. Some love the fancy ones but I find a simple one works fine.

It depends how much snorkeling you plan on doing as well. We determined that we should purchase our mask and snorkel first. Went to a dive shop and were fitted for them. I have to say that it was well worth it. We got to Bonaire and spent so much time snorkeling, that had I NOT had a well fitted mask, I would have been very frustrated - diving down to take pics and such having a leaky mask would have been a bummer!

Welcome, Heike! Just a personal preference, but I don't like the thought of using a "used" snorkel at all.....might be a breeding place for germs and nasty things like that. If you can, at least bring or buy your own "snorkel" piece and then work it out with the mask and fins. We, too, bought out own snorkel equipment with us and never regretted. Even had my eyeglass prescription placed into the mask lenses (nearsighted) and it was not that expensive at all.

Have a great time!! Carole
