We will be arriving in Kralendijk by cruise ship next week for a day. Infobonaire lists two sites there for snorkeling, 31-Calabas Reef and 32-Eighteen Palms. I assume that Eighteen Palms is the Public Beach in Kralendijk. Are either of these sites any good for beach access snorkeling? if not, any suggestions.

Eighteen Palms is actually the house reef at Plaza resort and a bit of a hike from downtown. I don't know where calabas is, but if you just have one day, I'd catch a cab up to Andrea (don't take anything with you that u won't carry into the water), in my opinion the best easy snorkel on Bonaire......easy entry and exit and mucho fisho

The cruise ships usually have "a tour" that takes a bus load to the Plaza Resort beach for the day.

Calabas is the house reef at Divi Flamingo which is an easy walk from the cruise ship. You head south right along the waterfront until the road ends - straight in front is the side entrance to the Divi.

Alfred -

We would opt for 18 Palms at the Plaza Resort. Although we have not snorkeled all of Bonaire's dozens of sites, we have had some of our best luck at 18 Palms.

In addition, there is a beach bar and a nice restaurant on the grounds and the largest sand beach (on an island with very, very few sand beaches) at a resort on the island.

When you hear Plaza "Resort," do not expect Sandal's, Club Med, etc. This is Bonaire. The Plaza is a nice size Dutch hotel with beautiful grounds, but absent the plethora of water sports, planned activities, and hordes of people of other Caribbean "all inclusivies."

P&O Ocean Village
and Holland America's Noordam are the most frequent this year.

The QE II is suppose to be here during xmas 2004 and we get Windjammer's during the fall season
