Hi everyone,
I am in the preliminary stages of checking into medical school in Bonaire. My wife and kids will come with me. We have 3 dogs and I wanted to know if they are allowed to come with us. We plan to be there for 2-4 years. Does anyone know the rules regarding moving pets to Bonaire? I already have a job as a online teacher which I can do from anywhere. How is your internet connection there?
Thanks for your help, Les

Hi Les,

I recently checked on bringing in pets for a professor who was moving here to teach at St. James, and I was told by Customs that as long as your pets have all their shots and their papers are no older than three months, you should not have problems upon entry. You should coordinate with your airline, however, because I believe they do limit the number of pets on board per flight--I don't know if they'll take three one one flight.

As far as Internet connection, we have several vendors, Telbo, MIO (using cellular technology), and Flamingo TV are the main suppliers, and all offer various packages with different speeds and rates. Telbo is ADSL over the phone line, and is relatively reliable. I have, for the most part, no problems with MIO, but Flamingo TV's service is neighborhood-dependent: some neighborhoods have fanastic, reliabile service, while others are always up and down. Hope this helps.

Les,

There are also temperature restrictions in place with the airlines so that there are really a limited number of months you can transport them in cargo. I think there are quite a few posts here about getting pets to & from - just do a keyword search and stuff will surface from the archives. I brought my cat and bird and came back to the US with them plus two adopted dogs. Coming home was a challenge to say the least - I had to airfreight the dogs and cat home via Amerijet and brought the bird in the cabin on my commercial flight.

Another consideration is any "special" food they may be eating; I had to ship my pet food in via Rocargo. There are ways to do anything you want to - it just takes patience, persistence and planning.

Good luck!
