Hello all, i know shipping companies have been mentioned in the past, but am not sure if anyone has ever shipped from So Cal or in my case San Diego. If anyone has a name of a reliable reasonably priced shipping company I would be very grateful for the information. My house here in San Diego is sold, i've bought on Bonaire and now I need to find a shipping company to move my "stuff." Any and all information would be so very much appreciated. Thanks

Sandy,

You might give Amcar (www.amcarfreight.com) a call. They are in Florida and work with Rocargo on Bonaire. My guess is they will suggest (and also organize) that you put your household goods in cargo containers, ship the goods via rail to Florida and then by boat to Bonaire.

I believe Amcar's number is (305) 599-8866.

Sandy,

Definitely talk to Mercy at Amcar. She's so helpful with info. I'm just going through this process as well. You may want to consider sending your things in a POD (pods.com) to Miami and ship from Miami to Bonaire via Amcar.

Have you applied for residency? You may want to check out Sunbelt Realty's website for lots of info.

Good Luck. Karen

Sandy,

One approach to getting your stuff from San Diego to Florida is get quotes from local moving companies such as affiliates for Allied and Atlas moving. They should be able to coordinate the logistics with AmCar. They may want to quote you a "pickup through delivery to your house on Bonaire" but will also probably provide a "pack only and get the goods shipped to AmCar" quote. If you chose the "pack only" approach, at some point you will need to be in contact with Patricia at Rocargo to coordinate the clearing of customs and delivery to your house.

Sorry, can't help you with flying your dog to Bonaire. We are going to have the same issue (but two dogs).

I think that you have miscommunicated with AmCar. When I moved here, I moved with the self-pack option. AmCar arranged for a Hamburg Sud container to show up at my house. I had 3 days to fill it, and then it was taken to AmCar for me (this is from San Jose, California). If you don't want to fill the container yourself, any local moving company will agree to pack and move your contents into the container for you.

Doing it that way, I managed to move all my household goods, a 1998 Suzuki, and a 1960 Morris Minor in one container.

One thing that Maria (at AmCar) told me was that if I wanted to insure the contents for damage/breakage I should have a professional mover do the actual loading otherwise insurance would not cover the contents. I'm not 100% sure I got the insurance issue 100% correct but having some strong backs to load and brace everything seems like a reasonable idea to me :-).

I moved from Cape Cod to Bonaire. I found a local shipping company who came, packed my goods and shipped them to Mercy at Amcar. There is another option now. Cargo International is in MIA and ships to Amado Felix of Achie Tours. Amado and his wife are very honorable people. Either way works.

Welcome soon
