Ok, now that we have made the decision to move within the next year, we have some questions. We are very familiar with everything we need to do, but we have a couple of questions regarding vehicles.

1) We are going to put a little bit of money into our 92 BMW Convertible (can't think of a better place to take it!) and bring it to Bonaire. Since it is a european vehicle, how is it going to be to get parts?

2)Also, we are debating as to whether to buy a small pick up in the states and ship it down, we are thinking foreign (e.g. Toyota), so as it will be easier to get parts (I hope). Is it worth buying in the States or should we wait to get onto Bonaire and look for one on the island? We are definitely going to need a small pickup.

Thanks.

Ed and Liz

Liz,

The only chance of getting parts for a Euro Beemer is if somebody bring another one on island.

If you buy a car stateside there is a 1-year ownership requirement before you can import the car duty free..my source is Sunbelt Realty's website: http://www.sunbelt.an/bon_tariffs.htm

If I were to move I would consider purchasing a used Toyota Hi-Lux (4-dr pickup) or similiar vehicle from someone leaving !!!

Also bear in mind, aside from any monetary concerns a Toyota truck sold in Bonaire is a different animal than one sold in the states, and so at least some parts would have to come from the states.

Check in with the Napa Auto parts store when you are here to see about the possibility of ordering parts if you need to. Barring any computer based problems if there are such things in your car, you should be okay for things like oil filters if Napa will order for you.
