Hi-As a resident (when we complete our paperwork) can someone tell us if we will we responsible for import tax/duty if we bring a boat to Bonaire's waters and keep it there? I am assuming as a tourist this is not required of course-but when/if we become residents-what then? Are we subject to huge tax and does Customs need to approve bringing the boat in? We are thinking of having a 50' or so boat moored or docked and it has occurred to me this might not work in our favor as residents in terms of import procedures and costs-any ideas? Thanks much

Dennis, life as a resident here is very different than as a "guest." You are asking questions that a professional needs to answer-either your real estate agent here, or the notary here, or your attorney here. A wrong reply from a talk board could cost you thousands of dollars. I strongly suggest you get on a plane & get down here and plan to spend some time doing your "homework." Now is not the time to try to save money on advice.
