This will be my third trip to Bonaire this summer. For the first two, I have used the Canon sd 630 and the results have been pretty good I think. I"ll post pictures later for you to decide.
I'm curious to know if anyone else uses this type of camera or just a basic digital point and shoot camera?
I am a teacher, so getting a 2000 dollar set up is just not the way for me.
I'd like suggestions if anyone has them. I have looked at the Canon G11 and 12. Curious to know if anyone is taking using any Canon G series camera? I heard the older models... 6 - 10 were also good cameras.
Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Thank you,

Zip

Zip
I am a teacher as well with my wife. We actually found an underwater camera at Dive friends that was very affordable and worked out just nice. Not as nice as the pictures that some have but pretty good for the price. I will ask my wife waht it is later.
BTW what do you teach? I am a first grade teacher.

I teach high school special ed and coach football.

I am probably going to stick with what I have.
I use Picasa to edit and it helps significantly.

I'm just really wanting to try the new G12 from Canon. I've heard good things.

JHop, check out this thread. It gives the very inexpensive camera setup I used and has a ton of pictures to give you an idea of quality. If you want more info, PM me.

I would post my pictures here, but I have no idea how to be honest with you. I'm a bit computer illiterate.

The G12 gets rave reviews.
This is for a housing only.
I have seen killer shots with this rig.
I hope it is within your budget.

Grunt,

I've heard great things about the g10, 11, and 12. I'm in need of a good camera for diving and topside as well. I was considering the 10 or 11 since it would be cheaper than the 12. The 12 has gotten tremendous reviews. If I knew how to download pics here I'd show you some that I took with the Powershot SD630. They turned out awesome...again...I cleaned them up with Picasa. I've fallen in love with the photography. Its the reason I continue to return to Bonaire. SO many underwater opportunities. Amazing....

No word on the 9, 10, or 11? Like I said..all I've heard about the G series has been good.

Always snorkling before I just would use a fuji camera I have that's waterproof to 10 feet. Now I am planning on coming back in may, to dive this time, and that camera just will not do.

So, in preparation, I have bought a canon G12 along with an ikelite housing and ikelite D51 strobe. I am unbelievably eager to take this unit down and see how it performs. I've been playing around with the camera for a few days now and am pretty impressed. I'll still be using my T1i for most of my picture taking in general, but I have to say that so far I'm really liking the G12.
