I'm working on figuring it out. In simplest terms it is a spotted nudibranch but I'm sure you know that. Here is an awesome website that allows you to browse nudis by genus to photo id them. http://www.nudipixel.net/genus/

The closest I've come so far is Pseudoceros Scriptus but I don't think that's right because I can't find any with the blue horns like yours. Still looking. I definitely think it is Polycladida.

Eric is right, it is a nudibranch, not a flatworm. It's Latin name is Mexichromis kempfi. The common name is Purple Crowned Sea Goddess. Nice find!

Nope, changed my mind. Now I'm thinking Chromodoris.

I can get very close to a match from the photos here but can't find one with the blue horns.

They have a link on this site where you can post photos of unidentified species. Maybe that will help. Perhaps you found something new!

Has similar markings for sure, but the locale is not right. The website doesn't even mention the Caribbean. Thanks for helping me, let me know if you find anything. In the meantime, I think I'll email Sipke who we dive with sometimes in Bonaire. He is a "tiny creature" nut.

Aha! I think I found it. Mexichromis Kempfi.

mexichromis kempfi

It is native to the Netherland Antilles.

Wow thanks guys! I don't think I would ever have found the name! I hope to have some pictures posted in the next few days. Might just do a link to snapfish or something like that - any suggestions?

Post them here (unless you are wanting to make them available to people who don't come here as well.) There are lots of online photo posting sites. Photobucket, Flicker, Google has one, etc.

Cool. I love nudibranchs. I can spot all kinds here on the west coast, but I never see any but the most common on Bonaire, just don't have the eye....

Oooh, I love nudibranchs! I've never had much luck finding any in the waters around Bonaire, other than the occasional lettuce sea slug...do you remember at which dive site you were when you found this one?
