From our trip in May I took over 700 u/w pictures of which I have culled that down to about 250. More culling is needed but I thought I would practice Cecil's steps to editing and see how it works. This is a seahorse picture that I took on Windsock. Any suggestions from your photo "pros" are appreciated. Cecil uses Photoshop Elements 4.0. This picture has been slightly touched up using Photoshop Elements 7.0. The camera is a Canon G-10, no external strobe. Picture was taken on a semi cloudy day (there were a lot of those in May) at about 40'. /image{seahorse}

Great pic to me. As usual with seahorses focus is a challenge and no good solution for that. Certainly not in software. It is hard to stay stable while hovering for the pic and the seahorse outlines are sort of fuzzy anyway. I could only suggest a small aperture and some distance, not macro distance, so that cropping can be done in the software.

Just a thought. Not very useful at this point in time.

I have a G-10 also. I took a class with it in Roatan. We found that even though it says it will focus within less then an inch, somewhere around foot is more realistic. Also play with the different ways it it does focus, spot or average. IMHO macro stuff works better in spot and wide angle shots work better in average. Looking at your image makes me wonder if you remembered to push the macro button. Images closer then 18 inches should be in macro mode. The G-10 macro button is a little tricky, it will come out of macro when you think it is in, like when you review a photo. I have several times thought i was in macro and took a shot and found out I wasn't. I use the manual white balance in the program mode when I shoot most stuff and have found that photo bias needs to be set at a negative 2/3 or 1 to not blow out anything white or reflective.
All in all I love my camera but it is not a simple point and shoot. It has been a rewarding challenge.
