I had some issues with the strobe not working for half of our vacation. It was flooded and was shorting out. I stopped by Underwater Planet and tried to rent an EV Controller from Murial. She said no, you can't rent one, but you can use mine for the rest of your vacation. She just wanted to know my name and where we were staying. I couldn't believe my ears. The first thing I'll be doing next year and taking her private course then the guided dive with her assisting my photo taking and then review and burn on a CD for me to keep. All for $75. Unreal. Bonaire is awesome!!!

Thank you.. I've got lots. Most are mediocre at best. Lots of memories for us and I'll post the smugmug link when I get them all downloaded so you guys can view the slide show with all it's ugliness. Still had fun taking them and viewing them.

You've got to love that little jewel of a camera!I found that the strobe was the key to good shots. I just ordered a sync cord for mine; I'll let you know how (and if) it helps in a couple months. You have taken some quite nice shots for your first outing.

Great Shots, Just remember PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! Even at home! Shoot everything, and don't forget to PRACTICE!!! Ron

Thanks everyone. I have to thank you Ron. I started shooting in auto and then went to A with F stop of 5.3 and then 6. something. It really helped. Also, in the beginning of our trip I forgot to set my camera to flash all the time, so the flash wasn't triggering the strobe on a lot of my shots. When I looked at 975 photos I ended up keeping 270 and the ones I posted already are the best. So as you can see, practice, practice.

It's a brand new Olympus Sp350 purchased at Costco for $189. My second try at digital photography. Sold my Nikon after getting very frustrated. It helped getting the strobe DS50 and the Manual EV controller to control the flash
Underwater Planet in on the main road between Pasa Bon and the Roundabout by Chat N Browse. Her name was Murial. She was very generous. Well here goes. My slideshow

Thanks for sharing them.

I will be leaving on my first Bonaire trip in 195 hours but who's counting!

Marge, my Ikelite EV controller recently died. I sent it to Ike to see if it could be fixed. Alas, no, but they sent me a new one for $75, and it is a later model to boot.

I'm going to choose a few to have printed to do just that. I was tickled with several of my photos. As Ron has said, "practice, practice, practice". Which I'm still doing now, getting ready for next year.

Marge,

Enjoyed your pics. I just bought the sp-350 on E-bay (couldn't find a new one at a reasonable price since it's discontinued) as my c-5050. died on my last Bonaire trip. Have so far just used the internal flash, thinking about getting a strobe but for shore diving I'm afraid it will be too cumbersome.

Of course the great thing about digital is you can shoot a bazillion pics and if only a few come out great, doesn't cost you anything.

BTW, I think the "worms" grabbing and eating things are (is) a tube anemone that comes out only at night. Withdraws into a hole in the sand in the daytime or if threatened. Cool to see anemones feed at night, shine your light near them which draws the zooplankton and the anemone grabs with its arms.
