I'm looking to purchase a Used Ikelite housing #6132.35 for Olympus SP350. I've checked e-bay and amazon. No luck. Anyone got one they'd like to sell?

There was a new one on DDNet http://www.digitaldiver.net/
two days ago but it seems to be gone now. I believe there is a "wanted to buy" section under "adds", if not just join and post that you are interested. BTW, I have a brand new Ike housing for that camera that will get its maiden dive on April 21 in Bonaire.

marge,

bhphotovideo has new ones in stock:-)

sounds like a much better solution than the nikon 7600...you will get TTL and pick up the option for a wide angle converter...

ron will be posting and you will see;)

I so hope :-) that the learning curve on a totally new rig is really short; we'll see.

I hope so. I already have the DS50 Substrobe with an ev controller and ball and socket arms for the Nikon. So all I'll need is the housing. Helix has it too. It's just too much money. I'm hoping to find a used one.

One more question. Do I need to purchase the sync cord for TTL or will it work in slave mode just as nice.

oops...

yes marge, for TTL you would need the sync cord, however you will still get good results with the slave/manual controller. another option yet is the digital slave sensor (which is not the manual EV but kinda looks like one) - ikelite says you can get "real" TTL with the cord and the 350 and if that is really the case - great!

sync cords seem to go bad and even ikelite admits they are the weak link...

see what ron is using and how it works and then get the cord or digital slave if desired...

and don't feel bad...i'm on my third ikelite housing (before i got it "right") :-)

Matt M. The Ikelite tray, with ball socket arm/strobe is not interchangeable with a Pt-030 housing. That's what I was told, so I'm shopping for an Ike.

Bob: I have to explore what you just told me. I don't get it. I'll research it.

Here is a tray that should fit your housing. My wife uses this for her Olympus housing-not a PT-030- with no problem.

Is this housing compatable with my Ikelite strobe if I want to go TTL?

Marge,

My husband has the Olympus SP350 and he has an Olympus housing (PT 030) for it. B and H has it for $189 plus shipping.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&kw=OLPT030&is=REG&Q=&O=productlist&sku=400761

Not sure if it is any different than the Ikelite housing, but it is a lot less money.

Karen

Here is an option for using the Olympus PT housing with TTL. This would work with your existing housing and the Ike tray mentioned above

http://www.heinrichsweikamp.net/blitz/indexe.htm

On the left, scroll to "Converter for Olympus TTL"

still off topic sort of...here is a comparison of a macro shot without flash and then with flash (TTL thru ikelite slave sensor and DS50) on a nikon d50

no
yes

high aperature setting for both and i can see that the flash helps to create significant depth in the shot...high F stop (F22-32) is not enough for depth...

so macros do turn out better with flash?

for practice purposes it would be nice if ikelite made a generic 2 handle tray with a camera mount so we could just screw on the camera (without the housing) and attach the strobes and control thru slave sensors...get a lot more use out of those underwater strobes...

one more...wide angle and flash...tends to emphasize a subject (wide) when shot close...and then the depth (almost 3-D) effects from strobes...just the popup and a DS50 this shot but even better probably with a DS125 and a DS50...investigate the 3-D lighting space with flexible arms i guess? (or even a remote dive buddy;))
