not film, back to the D50 with the sigma 10-20mm - cropped about 25% of the original out - still pretty sharp detail...

so...

another "crop" - this time from a macro shot (digital)...cropping in this case is similar to "digital zoom" i believe - cheap/easy way to get "closer...

as focal length increases focus becomes harder to hold...not sure anybody thinks about this but when you put a 105mm macro on a dSLR you get an effective focal length of about 157mm, then add another 25% to the focal length due to refraction (and a flat lense port that does not correct for the refraction) - you end up with a focal length of about 200mm - no wonder focus is hard to hold;)

but you can back off a bit and "zoom" the result...

oh, and this was shot at night...strobes make it look like daytime;)

i shot this turtle like 38 times and NEVER got the shot i wanted...easy to get excited when you see that turtle that is willing to pose...
