Click on the image to view the video. Maskarada is sort of a Caribbean Carnival crossed with Bonaire traditions going back to the slave days and held in the first week of the new year. These traveling bands visit neighborhood homes and entertain in return for drinks of rum. By tradition, they do not talk and no one can be sure who is who. They each carry a straw and the masks have a small hole to use in consuming the reward...Not the main reason they do the Maskarada, just a nice touch! Cheers, Roger |
