looking at stuff on the web (again), but it is christmas time and i really do not want to exercise;)

anyway, so how much sense does it really make to purchase a portable media player with say a 3.5" screen, 40G storage, and SD card and raw format support (~$250-$400) rather than hauling down an 8lb laptop? need to be able dump my SD cards at my convenience (not run to chat-n-browse after every dive;)) and get a pretty good idea of how the pics are coming out - the camera LCD is not sufficient...

so comments?

thanks,

I have a very small Roadstor that I love. It fits right in my carryon. The only downside is that I don't get to see the pictures until I get back home.

I'd check e-bay for a 12" macbook or laptop. You could probably get a used one for about $400. and the small ones are not heavy at all.

I use a 12" macbook and have no problems schlepping it with the rest of my photo equipment, (carry on).

I usually end up spending the flight home organizing and culling through the pics.

Why not go the cheaper way and purchase a 2 or 4GB card for your camera. Flash away. Edit when you return home.

thanks,

i looked at the notebook bit real hard - 12" (4 lbs) equipped the way i would require (and new) - more like $1300...

as far as waiting till i got home - that's not easy to do and the instantaneous feedback is important...

so i found an 80G, 3.6" (320x240) 7-1 card reader, with raw preview that weighs 10.2 oz...about $350

and since i'm not actually a "real" buckeye it is ok that i purchased a wolverine

FYI (from manual)

use back USB ports (on desktop pc), front USB ports to not have enough bandwidth to support external "hard drives" (media players in some cases)

:-)

merry christmas!
