I am a long time U/W videographer but am going to try still photography for the first time on our upcoming Bonaire trip. I have an Olympus sp-350 digital camera in an Ikelite housing with their DS125 strobe system. My problem is that the strobe arm rotates. I expect major problems with aiming the strobe. It is an Ikelite quick release arm with 1" ball joints. Any suggestions on how to deal with or correct this problem.

the water will certainly dampen some of that motion...

i have the "cheap" arm but is there not a lock(s) at the joint(s) on your arm??

Robert

Welcome to BT. I also use a bendy arm for my strobe with loc linc 1" ball joints, above the water the strobe flops down under gravity but in the water the strobe is supported and the strobe stays in position. Currents can move the arm if you not going with the flow but it is not difficult to move it back. Have a great trip.

Robert,
Most of the balljoint arms have to be seated into posision when first purchased. They are not snapped into the lock posision during shipping... Ron

Thanks for the prompt replies. Ron mentioned snapping the arm into a locked position. I found that if I push backward (front to back) on the quick release pin that the rotation is less. Hope it works out OK, I'll start taking pictures behind Buddy Dive Sunday morning...

somewhat off topic...those with the ikelite 105mm macro port might want to check the nut that holds the manual focus knob in place - first sign of trouble - the control will slip - next you will get a small leak...

so just tighten it back up...

camera testing complete - both housings, both ports:-)
