I need advice from Henrichs most excellent advice I got hubby for christmas a Cannon Rebel and for fathers day was going to give him housing went to local dive shop and they are trying to discourage me saying camera is expensive camera and housing is expensive and would not recommend risking it. Tried to talk me into getting housing for SonyHandy Cam instead which one do you think is a better option. One aspect that kind of appeals to me is taking video underwater so when I am having bonaire depression I can pop it in dvd player and take a dive.

Hi
If you feel that you need moving memories from Bonaire, the choice is easy, but if it is ok with stills I absolutely recommend the rebel in a housing from Ikelite.

Expensive or not - I have had my Rebel under water more than 150 times and it is still dry. I say it's basically up to you if you want a dry or wet camera (if you have a good housing like the one from Ikelite). If you use to much lubricant, do a giant stride with the camera in your hand or neglect basic o-ring and housing maintenance - then the camera will get wet! I spent in average five to ten minutes to prepare the equipment before and after every dive and that is enough to keep it happy. I don't know where you live but here in Sweden my home insurance covers a wet camera if it should happen.

Hope that was some help.

Henrik I am sorry that I misspelled your name in above post. Thank you so much for your advice. We are going to be on bonaire when you are and I told hubby I want to go to your photography class that you are holding during dive adventure week in June. I feel we are so lucky to be there for such a awesome oppurtunity to learn from you.

Henrik....I'm going to miss your class??!! Oh, no! We are usually on Bonaire at that time, too...first year not there. Wow....I hope you will be back to do this again so I can meet the "master" and learn some tricks of your trade. Good luck and I know everyone who is fortunate enough to attend your class will come away with great knowledge and terrific skills! Ayo. Carole

My class? I think that there must be more than one Henrik out there. That's not me.

I'm going to Bonaire in october with a group from Sweden and for the first time we are trying to have some minor photo work shop for them as a test. If it works out well, perhaps it can grow to something bigger.

Maybe there is a guy who spell his name like you did ;-)

That's funny, Henrik! Well, I hope your work shop in October goes well and that it does grow into something bigger for all of us! Carole
