I know how to resize jpg. to <50mg and show them on BT. I am using PS Elements 3.0. How do I resize to make the pic fill the screen?

This , for example.

Ron, you have to lower the jpg compression ratio. This is the slide bar that comes up after you enter the save filename. To get a 700 pixel wide picture you need to take it down to 3 or even 2.

I started with this shot from an Oly 4040, resolution 2272 x 1704. To get it to a size I could post, I used PS elements 3. I just Used "image", and then resized till it came down to <50 meg. Help me from that point to a larger posted image.

Ron there are three things that determine file size; image size in pixels, compression ratio and fine detail in the picture. In Photoshop (which should be pretty close to PE), open a picture, click Save As, click Save, then a JPEG options screen appears. The compression ration is called quality and there is a slide bar that goes from low quality to max. This is what you will have to lower to 3 or 2 to get a full screen picture. The file size is at the bottom of that screen.

The down size of that ratio is artifacting which becomes more noticable the lower the ratio. I don't really see it in photographs till 3 or 2. I have friends that see it at 5. When you play with that number, Photoshop previews the effect on the picture.

Good Morning folks. Here's the quick and dirty.
In Adobe Photoshop Elements or LE, resize your photo to 6 or eight or ten inches on it's longest side. Then, from the FILE menu, select save for web. A split screen will appear, find the QUALITY box and click on its triangle, bringing up a quality slider. Move the slider until the photo is under 50k. Save it with a different name so as to not overwrite your original photo, and post that sucker.

Not as large as I would like, but still better. When I resize per instructions, something odd happens. I use the "quality" slider to size the pic to <50K (I'm using a copy of the original). I then save it. When I check the properties of the saved pic it is larger than what the slider indicated by abour 8-9K. Any hints? All pics are from an Oly4040 with a single Ike DS125.

I still can't seem to get the larger size I would like, but at least the shots are more viewable.

There is a disconnect on my computer also, Photoshop shows a smaller size then either a file manager or Boniare Talk software. Not sure of the amount but 7-8k sounds about right.

Most excellent shots by the way.

Polopolus, a little help here would be greatly appreciated!! Maybe I could email you a (huge) full sized pic and you could work your magic on it. A step by step key stroke tutorial would be of great help. I know I'm close, but not quite there yet.

Ok. Open pic in Adobe. Select Image Menu, Resize, image size. Change height OR width to 10 inches. Hit return. Open File menu and select Save for web. Adjust slider to 35KB. Save as whatever. Look in folder you saved file in and hit properties. File will be about 36KB and 40KB on disk. Here is the sea goddess at 11" instead of 31" at 34k in adobe, 36KB and 40KB on disk

Cecil, I saw your dive profiles. How's that Nitrox course going?
Guys, I am a busy bee this weekend, I might check in in the AM to see if you are still confused, otherwise, probably late tomorrow night.
BTW Ron, I just saved your photo off this page to demo.
