Great pictures! Reminds us of diving with you back in June! Our September trip to China has been put on hold by the tour company. We may end up seeing you by the end of the year! When you get a chance will you please email the number to Coral Cottage.....I hope that's the name of the house for rent on the water near your house.

Great photos Bas!! Did you get a camera yet? If so, what did you decide on?

Leif is still going to send you a CD of our dives, probably after I leave on Monday.

Cheers, Michelle

Bas, great stuff! I'm only just now starting to learn about the manual settings on the Oly digicam, and it makes shooting much more flexible. I look forward to seeing more as you explore macro, supermacro, etc. With your knowledge of the reef I expect it won't be long b4 we see some even more amazing stuff.

Hi All,

Thanks for the support. It's an olympus 7070. Also got an external strobe and wide angle lens with it but have not used it yet. Still trying to figure out all the buttons on this camera. The manual is on a DVD but the letters are too small to read on my crappy old monitor. I have a Photo Shop disc also but don't know how to use that yet. Dont have a lot of time and patience to sit down and figure it all out. Thinking about taking a course with Tim of Fish Eye Photo. That should get me on the right track. The marco sofar is no good.. not very happy with the outcome of those pics. And no, it's not insured.... I never have much luck with the small print;-)
OK, will post a few more.....

To get a good macro shot, try practicing on land to get a feel for the right focal length. I think you'll be surprised at how far it is for macro and how close for super. U/W I simply set to the macro or supermacro mode, then did a 1/2 shutter press (triggers the focus program), then moved the whole camera in or out till the focus was just right. Then just be patient and take each shot 4 or 5 times so you can get one "keeper" out of several attempts.

Bas, Thanks a million times for posting the eagle rays. The visibility was unfortunately poor when you took us out that day, so we only could imagine what you see so often. You are the right person to be carrying a camera! :-)

Today wasn't a great day with the camera. Only took a few pictures. Hopefully they'll be good. One is of a juvenile spotted scorpion fish of about 1-1/2 inch big. That was cute. I tried again to get a decent picture of a bunch of juvenile spiny lobsters, spotted moray and a small half inch juvenile french angel together under the bow of a sunken small fishermans boat at Cai. A lot of sediment floating around and the lil frenchy just won't sit still for a second. There is another juvenile french angel also hanging around the "wreck" which is just a little bit bigger and he keeps trying to pull off the lose threads of the arm of my wetsuit. Also tried making more pics of him today. I won't know how they turn out until tomorrow or the day after because I keep the camera in it's housing for several dives before I take it out and download to the PC.

Susan, Billy did get busy. In fact he did very well.......

4 puppies were born on fathersday. Unfortunately one of them got sufficated by the mother while she was sleeping. But the other 3 are doing great. I'm going over there this afternoon to make some more pictures. BTW the pic on the mom and her pups was the day after they were born.

Bas,

We are going to have to organize a trip to the spots in your above picture when the group gets here in October (Tom, Smack, Kelly, Mary, Me (hopefully), Ed and whoever else is here!

You pics are helping me to get by the days I can't dive...but at the same time they make me envious....

Hi Ida, looooong time ;-) will you ever come back?
The puppies are doing great. I stopped by the other day and got some more pictures. They're very cute. Will start a new thread and post some, together with the underwater pictures of the past week.
Liz, would love to take you diving... just keep in mind that I don't like to take more than 4 divers... just gets too crowded and we won't see as much.
Bas
