Hi All:

We are looking into digital cameras with a capacity for underwater use. Has anyone had any experience with the Sony DSC-T1? We are also considering a Canon A95.

Be sure to check out steves-digicams.com and dpreview.com for information and reviews about the cameras. There were several reasons I chose the A95 over the DSC-T1. Sony cameras use memory sticks, but I sold mine when I sold my F717. I already had compact flash cards for my D70 that would work in the A95. The A95 seems to have better resolution over the T1. On the negative side, it has significantly more purple fringing than the T1 and more noise at higher ISO. The A95 has full range manual focus, manual exposure, aperture and shutter priority, uses AA batteries, and can focus to 2 cm. However its 640x480 movie mode is only 15 frames per second compared the 30 fps for the Sony.

How well will the A95 work underwater? I have no idea. But I will find out soon as I am heading to Bonaire next week!!

Toby I've been using a Sony for a few years now. Your needs really determines which is the best camera. The Canon A95 is a better camera if you're more serious about photography (more controls, more options). If you are very serious then look at the Olympus 4040 or 4060. If small camera size is what you are looking for, than instead of the Sony T1 look at the Sony DSC-P150, similiar size but a better/faster lens. It's also 7 megapixels vs. 5 for the T1. Both will fit nicely in a pocket.

The Canon A95 will do a great job underwater, I have seen many great shots with it or similiar Canons. If you want to see samples from the Sony click on my profile and go to my web page, many examples.
