My fiance and I are getting married in August. When planning our honeymoon we were considering several places... Fiji, Hawaii, and the BVI's. Well, it turns out we were lucky enough to get time on Aruba through our timeshare, but didn't want to spend 2 weeks there. We've always heard about Bonaire in the dive magazines, but were relatively unfamiliar with the offerings.

Over the last month, I have been engulfed in reading and research on not only the diving but food and accomodations. To say the least, we are so excited to come. We'll be in Bonaire the week of December 22-30, then off to Aruba until 1/5/02.

We are staying at Divi Flamingo.. Does anyone have any advice.. or recommendations (food..sights..etc.) Also in Aruba (just in case) we're staying at Divi Village. We would love some local knowledge.. Thanks a bunch.

-K

continue your research, and READ THIS BOARD. It's all pretty accurate, and you'll see categories on dining, diving, etc. It's a wealth of knowledge. Oh....and you will have a GREAT time there.

If you enjoy diving, then you'll love Bonaire. Look no further!

I recommend you get a car. Although you can walk into the little town, there's lots more to see on Bonaire, plus wonderful shore diving you can only get to by car. Would be a shame to miss out for such a special trip.

I'll be interested in your thoughts on the two islands when you return. It seems to me that, over the years, the atmosphere and the type of people that enjoy each island become more dissimilar. For uninterupted miles of sandy beach, one goes to Aruba. For quiet little coves and unsurpassed snorkelling and diving, one goes to Bonaire. For dancing, casinos and nightclubs, one goes to Aruba. For barefoot casinos and cloudness starry nights, one goes to Bonaire.

Although many "old-timers" lament the changes taking place on Bonaire (e.g. loss of the shoreline drive), it is still a far cry from what has taken place on Aruba. I lived there in the early 80's and hardly recognize the place now.

I'd be curious to know what type of person would enjoy both islands for a back-to-back vacation?

Originally we were only going to be on Aruba for two weeks (a cost saving measure), but were talked into going to bonaire for 1 week.

I'm very glad that we are going considering the diving is supposed to be so much better, but we are a young couple who enjoys both solitude and glitz. This way, we get a little of both worlds.

Thank you all for your advice, we are constantly looking for more information.

Warmest regards, Kelly
