Saturday November 23rd – Our First Full Day

We awoke in our familiar Buddy Dive room (406) and got an early start on our first day. After breakfast it was time to do our shake down snorkel. I’ve had a couple major surgeries this year on my neck so I wanted to test my limits. We went up and down the drop off from Buddy’s Reef to Bari Reef. The fish diversity was staggering. I couldn't believe the number of different species of fish I saw in a short 30 minute snorkel. Black Margates, Yellow and Mahogany Snappers, French Grunts, Creole Wrasses, Blue Chromis, Coney, Groupers, Trunkfish and Puffers and the usual half dozen species of parrot fish, squirrelfish and damselfish. What a wonderful sea of color and life.

Next we decided to go into Kralendijk to satisfy our 2 ½ year craving for watermelon juice at Cozzoli’s, boy did it hit the spot. The beautiful view and the warm sun helped us to decide to have an early lunch and short walk around town.

Next we were off on a drive around the south end of the Island past the Salt Pier, the crystallizer and condenser ponds & the slave huts. Sure we did this same drive the last time we were on Bonaire, but it’s so different then any place you’ve ever seen it’s worth the couple of hours of near sea level roads.

The Willemstoren Lighthouse and the odd totems are at the extreme southern tip of the Bonaire.

On the way back north we paid our due respects and made nice donation to the donkeys at the donkey sanctuary. I promise I wont go on about this topic and leave it for other threads.

Continued on next thread to be considerate on page size and loading time.
