Hello..I just found this board and we have just last weekend made plans to come to Bonaire in April 2003, We are flying Air Jamaica and staying at the Plaza resort for a week. I am not a good flyer under any circumstances but am a basketcase now. We are flying out of Boston and believe we have a stop in Montego Bay. My question...one of many..is do we change planes there...and most importantly is the plane a small one? I am scared to death of small planes and think I might have to be sedated if its a prop plane!!!! I am still waiting for trip detail from Ta so have no info yet on flights etc. But this changing planes has me worried. Thanks for any info anyone can share. Marianne

Marianne, I use JM out of BOS often. It is a SUPER airline. Make certain you ask for Ting to drink. It is a lovely Jamaican grapefruit soda.

You have a brief layover in Mo Bay and board a nice big plane. It is the same size as the BOS flight or a bit smaller. It is a piece of cake. Coming home if the plane leaves BON on time, you have an hour to play in the downstairs duty free shops..buy some local jams, honey, rum, Bob Marley trinkets, Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee..

I hear you about those small props. The AA Eagle from SJU to BOS makes me very ill and uncomfy. I have flown MUCH smaller in and around the Caribbean and have never enjoyed those flights..

Ahhhhhhhhhh

Annie

Relax mon! Air Jamaica fly’s Airbus Jets exclusively. A320s, A321s, A310 and A340. The smallest of the group seats around 150 passengers and they are all jets.

My first trip on Air Jamaica will be in November, but the reason I chose them this time is the wonderful recommendations that I’ve heard about the airline. Sure all airlines have delays, etc., but generally people are more pleased with AJ than any other carrier to Bonaire. I know at two of the local Dive Shops, they won’t fly any other airline, to me that speaks volumes.

After a free Red Stripe you’ll relax and enjoy the ride.

They are all jets, probably an airbus from MBJ as Scott says, They leave BON at a reasonable hour of the day, have very friendly workers, you will love AJ.

Just remember the golden rule:

It's nice to be important; it's more important to be nice.

Hi Marianne,

Like they say, evryting gon be ayeree mon, no worries.

I use AJ out of Chicago and LOVE the airline. I believe they have recently grown to be the 4th largest international carrier or some such claim to fame. Montego Bay is their central hub to the Caribbean, so no matter where you start from on your journey to Bonaire, you can meet up at Jimmy Buffet's restaurant for a great Margharitta and coconut shrimp snack between planes.

The Plaza is a super resort as well, not that I am aware of any really "bad" resorts anywhere on the island. You're going to have a blast.

Be sure to pack your sense of humor and general common sense, and leave your wristwatch in the room. Once you learn to enjoy "island" time, the fun truly begins. It is a fabulous, relaxing, friendly, safe and laid-back paradise. And needless to add, the best scuba diving on this here planet.

And no, I don't work for the Bonaire Ministry of Tourism, but if the job is open and includes a shack on the island, healthcare, enough money for groceries, booze and airfills, I wish to send my resume please!! LOL

To Marianne Johnson and/or Carol Eddy:
I'm a female diver looking for someone to do shore dives with in Bonaire April 16-23 (my husband doesn't dive) We are also staying at the Plaza and it is our first trip to Bonaire. If you or any of your group wouldn't mind another diver tagging along - please let me know thru my email!! Thanks
