I just want to tell you about our trip out to the Lac Bay party on Sunday. Time really slips away from you on Bonaire. I couldn't say where the day went but we were finally headed out about 4 p.m. We drove out into the middle of nowhere and took a wrong road to Sorobon. We asked directions and finally headed out to Lac Bay.

Now there is no sign of civilization on this road. Of course the donkeys were on the side of the road. But what should we spot in the dark green and black landscape but bright spots of pink! There were some flamingos in the mangroves. We approached as close as we could (which wasn't very close because of the mud) to watch. They sound like the Canadian geese flocks we have up here. This was such as wonderful treat, as these were the only ones we saw on this trip (more about that later).

We continued down the road and saw a hand painted sign that somewhat indicated that we should turn down this dirt road. We did and drove for what seemed like FOREVER with no sign of people. It was nice to see the herons and other water birds in the mangroves, though. But we were beginning to suspect that we were being lured to our deaths on this dirt road. Around each corner we expected to see SOMETHING, but no. We were just discussing whether or not to turn back and a car came from the opposite direction, holding an Amstel out the window.

We now had something to go on. We had to have faith that we were on the right track. We finally did make it to, literally, the end of the road and there it was! Since we were scheduled for a 6 p.m. dive at Town Pier, we couldn't stay very long. But I would highly recommend this (only earlier so you can stay awhile)activity as it really gives you a nice local flavor. I observed two little boys sitting on a table and using their feet to roll a big log back and forth. Ah, the days when, in our youth, rolling a log was a worthwhile activity.

We also planned on going to Washington/S____? park on Friday. Again, the day got away from us and we didn't arrive until 2 p.m. The park closes at 5 p.m. and the ranger indicated that we did not have enough time to enjoy ourselves. So we were unable to see the many birds there.

We stopped in Rincon for ice cream at Prisa's (sp?). I must say that we did not care for that ice cream. To each their own, I guess. But I did take a picture of a goat standing on its hind legs eating off one of the trees in someone's yard. The tree was inside their fenced yard but branches were hanging over and this goat took advantage.

We had a great time in Bonaire. I know you will, too, if you get a chance to go.
