Our little island sure had a lot of rain early this morning, huge downpours at least 4x, but just about stopped and we hit the road for a dive. Was sitting there looking at the beautiful shades of blues across the water and yup, dolphins!

They were in real shallow and going south, so we went down a couple sites and jumped on in and snorkeled out to see if we could get lucky twice this trip.

Oh yes, indeedy, we did! Six of them just lollying about and swam with us for a bit then continued on their way. We got to swim right next to them, totally cool!!!!! All this in about 17 feet of water.

Was sure glad we ventured out. :)

Hopped back in the truck and then saw some other lucky snorkelers at Pink Beach enjoy their dolphin encounter, waved and thumb's up and on our way for our dive.

Really nice dive, though it was first time I saw a lionfish in only 16 feet of water. Yikes! It was just hanging out in a huge brain coral that had a big hole on side. Took a double take on that one. :( Viz was pretty good considering all the rain right before we went and turtles, eels and all the fishes were out and about saying Hi! to us. Nice.

Debbie -- my wife Sue would kill to have been with you. She really wants to dive with dolphins. Were you north or south of Pink Beach?

Princeypoo, now ya know if I had a camera, they would not "come in"! LOL! The pictures are forever in my head to relive anytime I want. :)

KOB, Today it was at Tori's Reef as we saw them around Invisibles first, it's all about being at the right place at the right time. We have dove so many different times of the morning, they don't have a regular routine this year. And this pod is a small one, same pod both times, about 6 of them sometimes 9, one poor dolphin looks like it has been hit by a boat motor or a bite, but seems to be moving along just fine. BTW, welcome to LBR neighbor, I am in #13, maybe we will meet up during the summer months at some point. Not sure when next trip will be yet.

Deb,

You are one fortunate lucky little sh...t. Isn't that the way it always works? Take a camera, and you don't see crap. Don't take one, and see what happens?

Over the years, I've learned to leave the pic taking to Cathy Church, Stephen Frink, and Guy Harvey. You just experienced the encounter of a lifetime.

Look up, and thank the guy (or girl) upstairs. Most of us will never get to experience that. I encountered a manatee in Belize once, and peed in my wetsuit. I never do that.....

Well Debbie you are raising our expectations for a snorkeling adventure with the dolphins this trip (since we leave tomorrow). I was lucky last Aug and hope to be lucky again real soon.
I also have Lionfish in my sights and am planning on having a wonderful gastronomic home cooked meal!

Debbie -- thanks for the reply. We'll be at LBR third week of September. Looks like we get our 1-2 weeks a year at LBR until 2014, then we're coming down permanently. I am sure we'll get a chance to meet one of these days.

Debbie - thanks for the report! Back here in NJ it is raining too, but it's cold and no dolphins :) We are taking a two week trip in August and can only hope we might have such a lucky encounter. Thanks again!
